Special Characters in Titles

Post by Bimbing »

Hello, when I used VS 10 and VS 11, I was able to enter special characters in Titles (captions) by pressing [alt] and the special character number. For example, when I need a ñ (n with a tilde on top, found in Spanish words), I pressed [alt] and 164 at the same time.
However with VS X2, it does not work and I could not enter special characters in Titles.
My question: is this no longer available in VS X2 or I did something wrong in the settings/configuration of VS 12? I would appreciate any help, thanks.

Have you tried entering the characters in, say, Word, then copy/pasting to X2?

I am not sure why this happened. I too use foreign accent marks in my titles, and sometimes even totally foreign characters (such as Russian Cyrillic). The way I do them these days in X2 or X3 is to do my text in Microsoft Word, using the required key combinations in Word: e.g. to produce your ñ, you would use Ctrl+Shift+~ then hit n. With my Cyrillic, I use Insert > Symbol and scroll to the Cyrillic alphabet and choose the letters. Then I Copy these in Word, and Paste them into the VS title. It seems to work. Moreover, the letters seem to copy using whatever font you have chosen in VS...

Yes, I just tried it.... it works....! Extra steps but at least I could enter the special character in the Title.
Thank you.

I tried your suggestion [Ctr][shift] and the letter "n" but nothing happened. I tried also with another letter, still nothing happened. It works through Copy &paste through Word. Indeed, the character pasted in VS appeared in the selected VS font used. In any case now I am able to add the characters by Copy & Paste thanks to you and Black Lab. Again thank you both very much

No, I am sorry I am not a Phillipino....

I assume you meant you tried those key combinations in Word, not in VS...? That is strange, though, that they did not work in Word, since that is the way you do them in Word, rather than using the codes you have been using. And I did not say say Ctrl+Shift then n but Ctrl+Shift+~ to get it, the important thing being the tilde sign. Similarly, to get é, for instance, in Word you use Ctrl+' then e; for ç you use Ctrl+, then c (noting that it is Ctrl+ the comma sign)...
