- I just recently purchased PaintShop Photo Pro X3 and was wondering if my previous version (Paint Shop Pro 7) could both exist on the computer?
- If so, is there anything I should know before I attempt to install the newer version?
- Does PaintShop Photo Pro X3 have Animation Shop?
- If it doesn't and I only want Animation Shop to remain from the Paint Shop Pro 7 install, could I uninstall just Paint Shop Pro and leave Animation Shop 3 installed as-is?

Yes. I have one computer that has every version from PSP 4 to X3 installed on it. There are no problems having PSP 7 installed with any other version.lightsup55 wrote:Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

No, I don't think so. There are some minor problems with PSP 7 on Windows 7, but nothing that prevents the program from working.lightsup55 wrote:[*]If so, is there anything I should know before I attempt to install the newer version?
No. The last version that included Animation Shop was PSP 9. In X3 the links to transfer files between Animation Shop and PSP no longer work or don't exist.lightsup55 wrote:[*]Does PaintShop Photo Pro X3 have Animation Shop?

Re: Can PaintShop Photo Pro X3 and an older version co-exist
Tim, I have X2, X2 Ultimate and now have purchased and installed X3 FULL version. I have read the EULA and cannot find an answer to this. Can I sell or give away my version of X2 with the serial number?
I also did a search and can't find an answer to this.

Re: Can PaintShop Photo Pro X3 and an older version co-exist
I think you can sell or give away an older version if you have purchased a full copy of the new version, but not if you'd purchased an upgrade.
The one complicating factor might be the very strict licensing control (or DRM) that is included in PSP. This will only allow a limited number of installs on a limited number of machines. You are only allowed to have two copies installed at the same time, for instance on a desktop and a laptop or on a work computer and a home machine, but there seems to be some restriction on the total number of computers before you need to contact Corel to get this reset.
Most software licensing will either have a time limit after which old activations cease to count, or have a system for unregistering a copy on one computer before it is installed on a new machine.
Windows XP, for instance, has a time limit... a full copy will activate without incident if it is more than 4 months since the previous activation. Photoshop uses the other method... you can install on only two computers, but once it has been activated twice you need to deactivate the copy on one of those machines before it can be activated on a third computer.
Corel's products don't have any mechanism for deactivating an installation and don't have a stated time after which activations cease to count. If you've installed your copy on a few machines in a shortish period of time, the person you give or sell your copy to might have problems getting it to activate on their computer. Or it might never be a problem if you haven't installed it more than a couple of times.
The English language Corel license for X3 is typically in the file "C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Photo Pro\X3\PSPClassic\Languages\EN\license.rtf". The sections about transferring the license are (v) and (vi) in part 1.3.

One more thing to consider if you purchased an upgrade. According to the EULA, if you sell or give away your upgraded version, then you must also provide the qualifying version. You must also notify Corel, and receive confirmation and authorization to transfer the license.

Thanks for the replies Tim and Ron.
I have to check to see what version of X2 I have. I have X2 and X2 Ultimate on separate machines but I don't know if they were upgrade or full versions. I'm betting they were upgrades to X, which I am sure was an upgrade from 9. So, which qualifying version would have to go with the X2?
This could get pretty tricky....

Re: Can PaintShop Photo Pro X3 and an older version co-exist
When i installed my PSPX3 on my computer, i ran into a problem. It installed a set of My PSP Files, and it overwrote the same set of files that were installed for PSP9. Lucky for me, i had a backup but just in case, do move your "My PSP Files" somewhere else. Better safe than sorry.
