Hi,
I have a question:
I have Corel Video Studio Pro X3
I live in Europe so that's PAL. But I also want to make DVD's for my family in the USA, and that is NTSC.
I know I can choose to burn a DVD in PAL or NTSC at the DVD factory.
What I do NOT understand is:
When I want to edit my video files I can choose for PAL or NTSC at Settings>Preferences>edit color filter. What does this setting do?
Also when I check Project Properties it always says PAL, even when I choose NTSC at Settings>Preferences>edit color filter.
I am confused how I can edit video files and then burn DVD's in Pal & NTSC format without having to make separate editings for both formats.
Thanks:)

Re: Preferenced tab edit color filter (PAL&NTSC)
Hi welcome to the forum
To be honest I do not know exactly what the colour filter option does.
I’m sure other forum users will reply.
I have converted Pal to Ntsc without problems and not change this filter.
Your project properties will always revert to Pal as this is the option you selected when installing Video Studio.
This set the default templates as Pal.
In Share Create Video File the templates here will also be Pal.
As you are aware to convert to Ntsc use the Custom option, or create your own template using Make Movie Templates Manager

The color filters, prevent over-saturation of certain colors like red. To see how it works make sure it is checked, either one should do. Now select a the red color clip from the library, and drop it into the time-line. You should get this warning:
In this screenshot it shows the Red color clip. I unchecked the Color Filter option and used the Red color. With the color filter option checked. VS then prompts you and automatically adjusts the color, which is the one on the right.

Thanks Ron
We are in Pal country, the filter is set to Pal, should we change the colour filter from Pal to Ntsc when rendering to Ntsc video.

Re: Preferenced tab edit color filter (PAL&NTSC)
My understanding of this is that you should. This whole NTSC / PAL thing is much more complex. I done some fast research and found out that the red color can actually interfere with TV signal sync.

Re: Preferenced tab edit color filter (PAL&NTSC)
Ron's explanation is absolutely correct. I used to work in the broadcast business and just want to add that color filters as used in VX3 relate to clipping the over saturation levels which could generate chroma subcarrier amplitudes that, when summed up with the luma levels could result in composite video amplitudes which extent beyond the black and white levels. Composite video is what is used to modulate analog video for broadcasting, and if the total level (luma + subcarrier) becomes too high the result is clipping (not only in the chroma channel) in the SSB modulators, and audio rattle, sync problems and clipping at the receiver side. We (Barco, now Scientific Atlanta) used to design pro broadcast monitors which detected the illegal or unsafe area's e.g. http://www.ptv-gmbh.de/catalog/barco/da ... 051ish.pdf
As long a the saturation is not changed (pushed- up) with camera signals in VX3 and/or the video is not prepared for broadcasting I think there is no real need to set the filter on, but it doesn't do anything wrong, unless you want to get(keep) oversaturation for your own video..
