Hi

Welcome to the forum
You haven’t given much to go on, we don’t even know which version of video studio you are using.

Sometimes capture problems are related to the computer itself, can you fill in your profile to include your PC specification, this will show to the right of your posts.

We need more useful information, there is a post at the top of this forum indicating the type of information required.
Titled PLEASE READ THIS FIRST BEFORE POSTING!!!

http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8959

You have however told us that you have captured to raw/ un-compressed Avi. Given the file size.
If you were to use a compression of say DV (Digital Video Type 1) then you would use 13 Gb per hour.

Welcome to the forums,

How are you transferring or capturing your videos? Analog capturing using VS 11, VS X2 and VS X3 is basically impossible. There may be a few devices around that VS will allow analog, but for the most part it fails.

Are you going to do much editing of the videos? If so, you need to make sure you use the best quality format, the least compressed to do your editing. Since VCR video is a lower quality to start with, this is very important. Are you planning on creating video DVDs? If so than capturing to MPEG-2 would be your best choice. DVDs must use MPEG-2 video files that meet the DVD Standards. Using any other format, will result in your video being re-coded to DVD Compliant MPEG-2.

Don't try to work on long durations at one time. VHS tapes can hold several hours of video, if they're recorded at a lower (SLP) rate. So for example if you have a tape that has 6 hrs of video recorded on it, you need to break this down. It will be impossible to fit all 6 hrs onto a single-sided DVD, at least with any degree of viewable quality. I would not have more than 1 hr of video in a project, because for a DVD using VHS video, will bring you about the same quality as your source material/video clips.

hello agian,
sorry for the late reply and sorry for not reading before posting.

here are some answeres:
- I dont know why, but i cat find my Video Studio version, any where in the program where i can look?
- How do i pass from raw to digital, i have a USB-euro conecter (3 colored cables), looks like it works properly.
- Editing? no, basicly i would like all my VCR in digital format, best cuality posible, and normal capacity.
- Ok, no more than 1h pero video, no problem.

so... why when i choose MPEG after 5 min an error apears?
changing version can help?

tnx again for all your help,
allot of happy memories in VCR that dont wont to be lost!

Now youv'e got me a bit puzzled - you say you are using a USB - Euroconnector (3 coloured wires) - I have NEVER seen a USB connector using seperate coloured wires - I assume by Euro Connector you mean the European standard 21 pin connector often referred to in the UK as a SCART connector, now this can have the three coloured wires but they would then be terminated with three Phono (RCA) connectors (red, white and yellow) - never with a USB plug - it is a different transfer protocol so I cannot see how it would work - perhaps you could explain a bit more what you are using.

Bit difficult to tell you exactly where to look for the VS version, depends which version you have - if you have one of the older versions try looking in the very top right corner of VideoStudio where the minimize (-) and close (x) icons are - if there is a question mark there as well click on it and from the drop down choose 'About VideoStudio'

For those who don't speak Spanish -- not that there is a lot of information available in that link!! -- it appears to be a simple USB capture device for connection via 3 RCA composite video cables (or what appears to be a fourth S-video plug) to the analogue device at one end, and to the computer via USB plug in the head of the device at the other end. Unfortunately, there is no indication which version of VS comes with it. Indeed, the page does not even mention that *any* software comes with the device!!  However, the accompanying photo DOES include an image of a CD with EasyCap on the label.

Almirant/Admiral, if indeed you have EasyCap, you MUST use that to capture from the device and not Video Studio. It should be set to capture DVD/mpeg-2. Then when you have captured the video, you open Video Studio if indeed it came with the device, and then edit the captured video. But to repeat, it is a two stage process: first capture with EasyCap, then second, edit in Video Studio.

As an aside, recent versions of EasyCap devices came with VS 10 SE, though earlier versions came with VS 8 SE.

Hi

From the capture window choose
Options
Video and Audio Property settings……
Tick Use Software Compression
Select Advanced
Change Compression from NO Recompression to “Microsoft Video 1”
This should capture to DV-Avi at 13 Gb per hour.

There have been some fake products sold on the internet.
So much so that the original manufacturer has renamed the product.

View this site for further info
http://www.ezcap.tv/

VS 10 is no longer supplied by this manufacturer.

By the way I have the same version as you, (cheep on e-bay) it doesn’t work, just crashes or freezes my program.

I also have and use the newer version, no problems, including Mpeg capture.

hello,

Ken Berry i just posted the link so BrianCee could see what device i was using. I instaled the CD and looks like VS came on straight away, no EasyCap, but i will reinstall the software and look for the EasyCap. Also with VS i can capture, i have tried with other formats (that were to big) and they works, only have problems with mpeg.

trevor andrew tnx very much, i will try this as soon as i get home. My version works ok, just the MPEG problem after 5 min. Witch is the latest version? ad where did you get it from?

thanks to you all.
waiting for new replies.

Hi

I first purchased EasyCap from China on E-bay, it was a bargain, very cheap.
It came bundled with VS 10 se.(There is no EasyCap capture software, you get VS 10se plus a USB driver.)
The device did not work, I did complain trying to get a replacement, but found It wasn’t worth the effort, as I said it was cheap.
Not much but now a little wiser……………..

Earlier this year I found this site http://www.ezcap.tv/ and to my better judgment bought another device.
Having read the support page I soon found where I had gone wrong with my first purchase.
Anyhow this new device works. It is bundled with Arcsoft-Showbiz DVD2 program which can be used to capture video.

Using VS10
You indicated capturing to Mpeg, you will be best capturing to the DVD option.
This produces Mpeg2 using compliant properties.
Choose the Options Cogwheel to set/edit your capture properties.

The DV option I mentioned earlier may be the best option.

in the end i did what trevor andrew told me, but in options, insted of Microsoft Video 1 i put MPEG compresion, and it seems it works fine!
recording in DVD, if i try and put MPEG it changes automaticly to DVD.
so...
45min (DVD) --> 2.3 GB

just what i needed.

now i have to transfer about 100 VCRs, hahahaha...

thanks allot to you all! :D :D :D

I would certainly give that option a try. I have a couple of USB headset/mics that will produce the 60hz buzz, where my mini-RCA one does not. I do use about every USB port on my computer, so that's probably adding to the interference.

I can't help feeling that if you have 100+ VHS tapes to copy over you would be better throwing the device you have away and installing a decent PCI capture card directly into your PC - something like this :- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... =GX-022-CP - but if you want to you can spend much more than that - up to you what sort of equipment you want.

Trevor

I too went the route of buying one of those easycap items from China and it was DOA. I messed with it for ages. I even sent it back to China for a replacment but apparently it never got there and i never heard from them again.
Anyway I was wondering what you thought of the item you now have from the REAL manufacturer you mentioned as I too have a bunch of VHS to convert.

I am currently using a Pinnicle USB devise which is very flakey  (like most Pinnicle stuff I've encountered). I borrowed it from a friend (glad I didn't buy) but would like to get my own device. The Pinnicle forces you to output to a physical DVD only (when it works) and then I have to get VSX3 to get the files off the DVD.
I would like to capture directly from the external deivice with VS.

I like Brian's suggestion but I do not have any slots left in my PC unfortuneatley so it will have to be an external device.
There are lots on the market but I can't seem to find any opinions on them other than my own with this Pinnicle POS.

Cheers
