How about telling us all about your input file, we are not soothsayers or clairvoyants?

Very nice. I can see that this will be interesting.

The input files are mpegs. Individually, the files play well, the sound syncs perfectly. The problem occurs after the burn.

What else would you like to know? Let's keep this cordial.

Devil was being cordial, at least for Devil ;)

Please understand that information like video file type, bitrate, CBR/VBR, audio encoding type etc. vs. the disc template and if recompression is turned on or off are very important when it comes to our ability to give you a useful answer.

Well?

Sound sync issues

Thank you for your replies. I understand that fixed vs. variable bitrate makes a difference. i am presently in the process of burning another disc with the bitrate fixed. I am told by Ulead tech support that this is one possible soultion. Tech support has also advised that the patch available on the website could be causing the problem.

Hope this helps. A good weekend to all.

This is a very common (very nasty) problem which seems to have several different causes / solutions. Search the forum for "sync" and you should find several suggestions.

In my case the cause was corrupted files*. The corrupt files played fine before being burned to a DVD. My source files had MPEG-2 audio. The audio & video components of the file must be demultiplexed and remultiplexed when the audio is converted to LPCM or AC3. The re-multiplexed file is out-of-sync. :(

*My MPEG files were corrupted by Video Studio 8. Now I use Womble MPEG Video Wizard ($120) for editing MPEGs.

I have not had any sync problems with Workshop since switching to Womble for editing. Of course MPEGs are not meant to be edited, so if you have a choice, you should edit in AVI and encode to MPEG after all editing is done.

[EDIT] -
The Womble products have some tools to repair MPEG files. A couple of other products that are supposed to repair MPEGs are PVAStrumento (free) and Video ReDo ($50). I have not tried any of these repair tools.... I don't have corrupted files anymore! :)
