Welcome to the Forums

The reason you cannot access .vsp files when you go to add video is because .vsp files are NOT video files - they are in fact text files and have no video at all in them.

Not only can you not import vsp files into Movie Factory but It is not a good idea to use vsp files to burn DVDs anyrate - go back to the timeline in VideoStudio - open your vsp there and then go to 'Share >> Create Video file' and produce a DVD compliant mpeg file first - then when you go to add media in Movie Factory you can import that mpeg file

Sorry but i don't agree with U. If u go to help file from Corel DVD MovieFactory and search fot VSP it will tell U: Corel DVD MovieFactory allows you to add video files of different formats such as AVI, MPEG, and WMV into your video project. You can also add a VideoStudio project (*.VSP). As far as I know it was ok with Video Studio files V.10 . But now, at least U can take it out from Help. Sorry for my post but U must search before u write!

If you are using MF 7 -- either the Pro or SE versions -- then it will NOT accept VSP files from either VS X3 or X4. This is because they were written before either X3 or X4 were even on the drawing board. It should, however, accept VSP files from VS X2 and earlier versions. You should also note that Corel took the decision before X3 was produced to drop MF as a product. So no further work was done to develop either a patch or new version of MF to work with X3 or X4.

MF 6 should also be able to open X2 VSP files, and those from earlier versions.

MF is backwards compatible, not forward compatible. This is also the case with Video Studio itself. An earlier version of VS cannot open VSP files saved in the VSP format of a later version of VS. However, a later version of VS can open the VSPs of earlier versions (except in the case of X4 and X3 which are limited to VSPs from X2 or earlier).

You can save an VS X4 or X3 project, however, in the VSP format of up to the two previous versions and open them that way in MF 7. To do so, go to File > Save As, and then, after you give the new file a name, you click on the downward pointing arrow to the right of the box beside "Save as type" and choose which version you want to save it as. X4 will allow you to save as either X3 or X2 VSPs, though as I said above, only the X2 type can work with MF 7 and MF 6. X3 will allow you to create X2 and VS11/11.5 types.

But note that any features you used in an X3 or X4 project which did not exist in earlier versions, will be lost.

Please note also, savu, that this forum is a user to user board, staffed by volunteer users like you. We are not Corel employees, as you seem to think. So telling us "at least U can take it out from Help", is pointless as we cannot influence what is in Help in the first place. That is done by Corel.

@savu

Those of us who have used the products for many years have learnt not to just read the help files and then post that it is a fact - sadly it is often not - and we have learnt to post from experience - that we know is the truth. I have tried many times in DVD MovieFactory 6 to import .vsp files - from any version of VideoStudio from 9 onwards and moviefactory steadfastly refuses to import them giving a file mis-match error. I was a little surprised to read Mr Berrys comment that DVD MF6 could import vsp files - because I can't - and obviously neither can snowstorm who first asked the question here. So rather than tell snowstorm that DVD MF will import vsp files when it doesn't for him or me I believe that I should tell the truth for me and say that it can't - the work around is so simple that I cannot see that it will cause anyone problems and allows the use of MF to complete the problem.

I am unable to comment on DVD MF7 because like many people I am unable to purchase it - it does not appear to be available in the UK - but even if MF7 can import vsp files and snowstorm said he couldn't do it my answer would still have been the same.

FWIW, I may have been precipitate in saying MF 7SE could import VSP files from versions X2 and earlier. In fact, I have MF 7 Pro, and it most certainly can. I just tested it once again, saving a project made in X4 in X2 format. MF 7 Pro lists VSPs among the video files it can import. And it both saw and imported without any problem the VSP I had created. This is also my clear memory of MF 6, though I admit I no longer have it on any of my computers to be able to test it. I will see if I can find my installation disc...

However, on firing up another computer on which I have MF 7 SE loaded, instead of the Pro version, I see that VSP is *not* listed among the files that can be imported. You can of course see VSP files under 'All Files'. But when I tried selecting one that I had made in X2, I got the File Format Mismatch error. So obviously that was another thing they stripped out in the SE version.

The only version of MF 6 I could find immediately was the original DMF 6 Plus. I couldn't immediately find the update patches. However, MF 6+ also has VSP listed among the formats it can open. I created a project in X2 and saved it as both a VS 10 and 11 project. MF 6 happily opened the VS10 project. However, it said it could not read the VS11 project. But I think that was because I had not updated MF 6 with the available patches.

As a footnote, I found it interesting that I could install MF 6 on a Windows 7 machine, and it appears to work without any further tweaks.
