How Do I Edit .avi Video files With Corel Video Studio Pro

Post by Tony S »

Hi,
I hope you all are doing well. My question is I am sure a very basic one. I am having a problem finding help. I would like to know if any one could help me with the editing of .avi video files with Corel Video studio Pro. What i am ttrying to do is three things 1, remove exsiting text in the video while keeping the effects. 2, Add my own text to where the original text is now. 3, ad my own clips to the video. The .avi file that I am attemting to edit is actually a video template and is designed to be edited. I can't seem to remoove the text in the video. There are two files that I don't know what they are maybe someone here can help me the are: ".aep" and ".prpro" Would these file have any thing to do with the editing of the video files?

Thank you for any help you can give.

Tony,
I moved your topic from the Video & DVD forum, to the VideoStudio forum. More people view this forum, so you have a better chance of getting replies to your problems.

Where did this avi template file come from? Is the template included with VS? What version of VS are you using? AFAIK, any video clips included with VS use WMV files. It's been years, clear back when Ulead was around, since DV (avi) files were included as sample files.

In VS X3 (the current version), you can drag a clip from the Organizer (Library), then hold down the Control key while you drop it onto an existing clip to replace it. When you replace clips in this fashion any effects applied to the clip being replaced are added to the replacement clip.

If this is a template file, you should see the text on one of the title tracks. You should be able to delete or remove them just like any other clip. If there are no clips in the title tracks, that would mean the text is burned into the video. You would need to overlay it, cover it up with something else.

AEP is a file for Adobe After Effects, and the PRPRO would be for Premiere Pro. That tells me that you have a template from one of those programs. If so they are not designed to work with Corel's programs, as they would with Adobe's. They probably have a lot to do with the video files if you're doing any editing in one of those programs. They mean nothing to VS.

Thank you very much Ron for your help. You are right, the video templates that I am trying to edit are from a different source than vsp. I am using VSPx3. The .aep file was just included in the template download as were the .MOV file of the video. The .MOV file are supposed to be editable. I converted them to .avi files because I thought that it would be easier to work with that way. I am still having no success with either type file. Do you have any more suggestions. or point me to where I may be able to get some information that will help me with this.

Thank you very much for your help. :)

What Ron didn't say in his post was that there are over 800 different video formats which call themselves "avi"... Unfortunately, that is just a wrapper format, so we in fact have no idea of which avi you are talking about. Please, inside VS, right click on one of the files and copy ALL its Properties here... Then we will at least have an idea of what we are talking about...

And while the project files (.aep and .prpro) are editable (i.e. can add/remove elements such as text) in the respective programs that created them, they are not editable in such a sense in VideoStudio.

The avi file you have is a rendered version of those project files. By being rendered all those singular elements have been combined to one single file. There is no separate text, separate FX, etc.

While you can put the avi file in VS, thus creating a new project file, you can add new titles, FX, etc., but you cannot remove those already created.

I want to thank everone who gave me the information I needed to understand more about the the video files I was attemtig to edit. I now know that I do need a specific software to edit this video (Adobe Premier Pro & Adobe After Effects) both which are way out of my price range at this time. I want you to know that I really appreciate the information because it also save me a lot of wasted time trying to do something that was impossible to do. :D

Thank you all again!
