Paintshop Equivalent to Photoshop "Crystallize" Filter

Post by kchildress »

... hoping that someone can help me identify a tool/feature in Paintshop X3 that is equivalent to a Photoshop command.

I am looking at a Photoshop tutorial that references a "crystallize" filter. The tutorial says the filter is located (in Photoshop) at: Filter > Pixelate > Crystallize. A dialogue box would open and the user then defines the parameters/size of the effect.

In PSP X3, I find a partial trial to this feature. From the menu: Effects > Distortion Effects > Pixelate ... but I see nothing else that is immediately obvious from there.

Are we aware of any other filter/effect/command that might replicate the chrystalize feature? Just grasping at straws but maybe something like the "salt and pepper filter"???

... possibly something in a user-defined filter (which I haven't even begun to try to understand)?

Well, it's not an equivalent. But the Tiles filter is capable of something similar. Depending on how large you need the tiles to be. But it's better for like stone tile shapes. I hope to find a plugin or description on how to make it myself but haven't come up with anything as of yet.

It's not quite the same but you could try playing with Effects -> Textures -> Mosaic (Glass & Antique). There may be a plugin out there but right now I can't think of one. Also, in Photoscape (freebie) there is a crystallize filter under Filters -> Region (out of focus).
