selectivly "Remove" from "Selections"

Post by RustyJ0nes »

I have tried with no luck to use the selection tools to choose part of the image for further effects or editing, and then to fine-tune the "selection" using the paint tools. It appears one can use the brush settings to "paint" additional selection area, but the "eraser" tool does not "remove from the selection.

Is there a better way to fine-tune remove from the selection area (such as the photo-paint mask tools) in Paint Shop Pro X2?

Since selections are essentially a greyscale image that Paint Shop Pro uses to select areas based on the white/black/and grey areas you can't have transparency. When an area isn't transparent the eraser use the background color (in the materials palette) to erase with. So to use the eraser you need to set the background color to black. If the foreground color is black you can use the right mouse button to use the foreground color instead.

You can use the Modify options in the Selection menu to selectively add or remove from the selection depending on what you need to do.
(Selections->Modify->)

You can also use vector objects to create selections from if the subjects are smooth and have well defined edges.

Use Selections>Edit Selection

You can then use the paint tools to add (paint with white), subtract (paint with black) or shades of gray that will adjust the transparency of the selection.

Hello RustyJ0nes,

Also make sure that you have selected the correct layer, because if you did not select the correct layer, the section that you want to erase will not be erase.
