New Blue Video Essentials IV Don't Appear

Post by Black Lab »

Last night I purchased and downloaded New Blue Video Essentials IV (Merry Christmas to me!). Installation seemingly went without a hitch. All the new New Blue vft files are in the vft folder. However, in both VS X3 and v10, nowhere do my new filters appear in the FX lists. No Video Essentials IV directory was created, they are not in All, they are not in any of the others.

My receipt states "Registration Information: Serial Number: 12345678910. For those familiar with purchasing New Blue FX, does this need to be registered before it can be used? If so, how do you do it, as I was never prompted to do so?

Hello Black Lab,

You may want to contact the NewBlue Support, since you are referring to the purchased newblue fx. Because the free Newblue FX with VS X3 should be under the FX Filter, when you click on the EDIT tab.

Yes, I know Abiel, and have already done so. But I thought someone else who may have already installed a New Blue product may have run across the same problem. :?

Jeff,

I purchased the Light Rays plug-in for Corel back in October. It created a separate category in VS.

When first installed you will be prompted to activate it, by entering your serial number, pressing activate. After that is successful, it asks for you to register it. I found there's 2 ways to get to the activation screen, one being when you first try to use it in VS. However if you are not getting the NB window to open, something is wrong. You can also access the activation through the start menu.

I found out that if you are going to uninstall any of the NB effects. it may not remove the thumbnail in VS. I tried updating the Light Rays, as it said that there was one. I did something wrong because it would crash VS, so I finally got it re-installed and working. Never did get the thumbnail removed in VS before doing so. The only other way to remove it was to re-install VS.

Thanks Ron. I was told by New Blue that the activation takes place only after you try to use one for the first time - i.e. dragging it to a clip in the timeline. I can't do that, as they are not even there.

Still working on it.

If you have more than one program, the effects may have been installed in one program that you are not using?

Nope. I have VS 10 and X3. The filters appear in neither.

Didn't have much time to work on it today but should be able to dedicate much more tomorrow (actually later this morning  - time for some sleep first).

Hi Jeff

I am a silly billy.

All VS versions VS 9, 10, X2, X3 show the same thumbnail filters.

Have been working on this for a couple of hours now. This is where I am at present:

1. Installed New Blue FX Video Essentials IV. The new vft files appear in the X3 vft folder, but in X3 no sub-directory for Video Essential IV is created under FX, nor are the effects included under All. Interestingly, the same exact issues happen with my VideoStudio 10.

2. Per advice from New Blue, I uninstalled Video Essential IV and VS X3. Reinstalled X3 then reinstalled VE IV. Still no luck. I also reinstalled NewBluecartoonr vft and another third party vft (timecode.vft) that I previously had in my vft folder. They also no longer appear in X3. They used to appear in the All dropdown.

3. I remove the vft folder from C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X3. I open X3 and attempt to add an FX to a clip. As expected, no FX is added, although all the thumbnails are present (minus the VE IV and other third parties, of course). Close X3. Copy back the vft folder to C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 and add the timecode.vft to it (but not the VE IV vfts). I now have duplicate thumbnails for all the FX. BUT, I now have the timecode filter back.

4. Reinstall the VE IV. Open X3 and I now have the VE IV sub-directory under FX. The filters seem to work, although their thumbnails are black (but can live with that if need be). I still have duplicate thumbnails for all other filters. Will try reinstall of X3 to correct that.

5. Reinstalled X3, reinstalled VE IV. Started X3 and received an error message (dump file). X3 shuts down. Restart X3 again, no error message, program opens but no third party plug-ins showing in X3, although they are all in the vft folder. Back to the drawing board.

The latest:

6. Re-booted system. No change.

7. Uninstalled both X3 and VE IV. Re-booted system. Reinstalled X3. Copied timecode.vft and NewBluecartoonr.vft to vft folder. Re-booted system. Opened X3 – the NewBluecartoonr now appears under sub-directory NewBlue Free Effects and the timecode filter now appears under sub-directory Robotiq, as they both should.

8. Reinstalled VE IV. Re-booted system. Open X3. Received error message (dump file), X3 crashed. Re-open X3 and the VE IV filters are not there. The cartoonr and timecode filters still remain in their sub-directories.

I will contact NewBlue with my findings as well as send the dump file to Corel.

Was this ever resolved? Or is the proper conclusion to never buy New Blue products?

No, it is not resolved. But NewBlue tech support is still working on it.

I discovered that it is one particular effect that is causing the crash. If I install all the others except that one, they work.

Which one was it?
I don't want to buy it till I know it is stable. Can you select which ones to install? I was hoping to use the time counter.

Yes, the one that causes it to crash is the Drop Shadow. All the others can be installed into the vft folder themselves and work fine.

On a side note, NewBlue's tech support has been working with me this entire time to try to solve this problem. I have been re-installing different versions and sending log files. Corel (and other companies) could learn a few things about their customer/tech support.

Your not kidding. I purchased the 'light rays' months ago. Had some questions and they were very prompt about answering my questions.
This morning I sent them two e-mails and had a reply with in 5 minutes of one and an hour with the other. A+ company in my book.
