VHS to Video Files.

Post by Ted. »

Importing VHS tapes to VideoStudio Pro X2 produces a video file and a .upd file with the same number. As I intend to store these files on my external Seagate HDD would it be permissible to rename them to correspond to each VHS tape? At the moment I've just placed the two files in a folder and named it eg: VHSTape_1, VHSTape_2 etc. Are the .upd files really necessary?

Hello Ted,

That will depend on how you created the video file. The .upd is a VideoStudio Scene Information. You may want to try and test is you can play the video file when you remove the .upd file and if it plays, then that should answer your question.

I always rename all my video files (including any upd files which are created) to give them meaningful and useful names so that when I return to them after a few years I know what they are without having to play them, since the upd files are usually quite small I always keep them - I just make sure video and related upd files have exactly the same name. I also rename avi files as well as soon as I have captured them - I dont find that uvs##### format very helpful
