I can't do the following or find how to do it on any searche

Post by Tony »

Hello, I've just recently bought the software PaintShop Photo Pro X3 from 'currys' and when I asked the experts about what I want to do with it, they straight away told me to buy this software - but i need help. What i'm trying to do is......
(sorry I don't know if there is an exact name for it).

Imagine i've just taken a photo of your hand holding a coloured ball. I then turn the photo black and white via the software.... Now.... how do I keep everything B & W but restore the original colours back to the ball only?? So I now have a
B & W photo with only a selected item returned to it's original colour. That's it. only a basic task i know but everyone said this software can do that. sorry if i'm being thick! Thanks for your help.

Here's a link to do what you are asking. It's for PSP X2, but will work for PSPPX3 also. BTW, work on a "copy" of your original.

My personal favorite method, similar to the one posted above, is to duplicate the background layer. Use the Black & White photo effects to make this layer black and White (it's really great because it also includes clarify and brightness options to really bring out certain colors.) and then erase the portions of this image that you want to have in color. This preservers the original image in case you mess up.

Hello Tony,

The steps is just similar to the steps provided by jaxman43 and LeviFiction. I created the tutorial using PSP x2 Ultimate but the steps is also applicable to PSP X3.

You can access the tutorial here: http://abielonline.blogspot.com/2009/06 ... ndout.html

Photoshop guides also translate nicely to Paint Shop, especially with this: http://paintshoppro.info/tutorials/phot ... ionary.htm.
