Request for serial number of MF 7

Post by Leif G »

Hello all Corel users out there!
My first post is about trying to install MF Pro7 as an upgrade. The way it goes is a bit unpractical, because when I am asked for the serial number the whole screen is blocked by the installation page,and I can't get at the number wich I have stored somewhere on my computer,so I have to go back,close down,find the number and start the installation process again.
And then after that,they are asking for my old serial number,so the same thing happens again,go back try to find the number etcetera.. There is just a tiny problem,I haven't got any serial number for MF7, because we got that free,didn't we,and there was no serial number supplied! I have written to Corel support,but thought I should ask here too. I may get an answer here first about how to bypass this obstacle.
By the way,I was surprised at the huge amount that was included in MF Pro7. I only wanted a better burning program,
and I don't know what all the extra is,or if I need to install it all. But since I have paid for it...

Do I sign here..? OK Leif G. :)

I don't know, but the next thing I would try would be my VS serial number.

I thought about that,but don't think it would work, because the VS Pro number is 4 x 7,
whereas the MF 7 is a 3 part number.

IF you're thinking that the freebie (DVD MF 7SE, Corel provided as a replacement to DVD Factory 2010 included with VS X3, qualifies for Upgrade, sorry, it does not according to Corel's list of qualifying versions/products..
To purchase the upgrade version of this product, you must own a previous licensed version of:

* Corel DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus
* Corel DVD MovieFactory 6
* Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5 Plus
* Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5
* Ulead DVD MovieFactory 4 Disc Creator
* Ulead DVD MovieFactory 4
* Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3.5 Suite
* Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3.5 Suite Deluxe
* Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 Disc Creator
* Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 Standard version
* Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 SE
* Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 Suite
There's been similar issues in the past. Like with VS 11. They released 3 different versions, VS 11, VS 11 plus, and VS 11.5 Plus. Or VS 12, you have VS 12, VS X2 Pro and VS X2 Ultimate. I know with VS 11, you did not qualify for upgrade prices to VS 11.5 Plus if you had VS 11. Doesn't make sense, but that's the way it is.

So when it is asking for your old serial number, it is looking for a serial number of one of the above listed. Anything different and it will reject it.

Hello Leif G,

If you purchased DMF 7 upgrade, you should have the old version currently installed on your computer, so that it can retrieve the serial number from the software. If not, you may need to get a copy of the serial number, since the installation process will ask for the old serial number during the installation of the DMF 7 Pro upgrade.

Hello Abiel - It seems unclear whether I qualify for an upgrade. Ron P. thinks not,since I have not paid for the MF 7.
I got it as a replacement for MF 10.
Now I've not made up my mind what to do. Maybe I don't need MF Pro. Can you make it clear,if there is a difference how they can handle AVCHD burning? I had problems in MF7,every time I selected AVCHD and klicked on Next my computer locked up and I had to close down. I tried three times before I gave up. This was the reason I wanted an upgrade.
But the alternative to select AVCHD is there in MF7, so it should work right?

Leif,

Your computer locking up is partly due to it not having enough grunt to handle AVCHD. You're trying to move a mountain with a bicycle. AVCHD is very, very demanding on a PC.

Oh, you think so Ron ? I had to take a look at my system info,and it says Intel Core2 Quad 2,33 Ghz.
I had it slightly wrong in my profile,but perhaps it doesn't make a difference.
Anway,I have been able to edit my AVCHD clips from my Canon HF10 camera without any problems. And play them
on my computer and on my TV via HDMI cable. And I'm glad to report that the result have been good,with no transition
Blips (thanks to the advice here of disabling Smart render).
But it is possible that burning takes more power than I have. This is a first for me, and I just wanted to test AVCHD to
see if I could get better quality. I was not happy with the standard DVD result.
Beside the lower sharpness,wich might be expected,it also came out slightly darker and less saturated than the original.
Plus the sound was too low! Strange,because I had checked that the sound level on my computer and my TV corresponded.

Unfortunately I uninstalled MF7, so now it's all up to Corel. Either I can keep the Pro7 or I get my money back,and
reinstall MF7.

Haven't heard anything from Corel yet.
I suppose the easiest thing would be to pay the extra $20 and keep the MF Pro7.
Not that I need all the extra. Don't need Win DVD or DVD Copy,and probably will not use
any of the fancy things in MF Pro.
I don't mind giving Corel my money. As I remember it,when I bought my first Corel program over ten years ago,
(PhotoPaint 7,and I still use PP8 in Corel Draw) I wanted to support Corel against the "big bad Adobe".
Corel were in big trouble at one time,I don't know how they are doing now. But I have stuck with them.
Also have Corel KnockOut,Corel PaintShop Pro Photo and of course Video Studio Pro X3. :|

I can't find your message Abiel.
But never mind,I have got a friendly answer from Corel Support . And they say "as an act of good deed" they
give me a serial number that I can use for the installation,even if I was not strictly eligible for an upgrade.
Thank you Corel! My mistake was natural I think. :)
