Misc doubts and "do you get this bug too" questions

Post by Miguel Melo »

Hi,

I've had my X3 for a few days now and after playing around with it, I'm feeling a bit dismayed with some of my findings. Here's a few bugs I'm getting: can anyone confirm if they get it too? (I'm on the latest 13.2.1.15)

1) Every time I switch from Full Editor to Express Lab and back, all my palettes (that are set to auto hide) duplicate onscreen (e.g. after going back & forward 2 times, I have 3 Media Trays);

2) Occasionally of those adjustments that launch on a separate window stop making changes to the image if I move the sliders: I need to save as a preset and select the preset for the image to be affected;

3) A few times when using the object remover, I can't get "selection mode" or "source mode" marquees to appear: I need to exit X3 and restart to get that back;

4) X3 keeps losing hotkeys/palettes I set and switching off the "Tabbed Documents" mode (after I reload the program);

Now questions:

1) Is there a unified way to increase/decrease the brush size (across all tools) using the keyboard? I mean hotkeys... like photoshop has the 2 keys next to "M"? Can't find anything other than having the focus on the input and using the mouse wheel (which is a pain).

2) On the non-Graphite theme, do you also get white-on light gray (i.e. invisible) arrows?

I'm sure when I post this, I'll remember a couple more... but for now these will suffice... :roll:

Have you downloaded and installed the patches? Just want to make sure.

Bugs:
1) Yes known bug. Not yet fixed.

2) I have not noticed any adjustment filters not working, the only time I've ever seen them not work is if I ever hit Esc before using the adjustment. Like Resize doesn't work if I hit Esc just before using it. But I don't know if this corresponds to what you're seeing.

3) Have you tried Ctrl+Shift+M? I know sometimes they hide so I need to use that key combination to get them to re-appear. Otherwise I haven't noticed any problems.

4) I noticed this before the patches, but not after the second one personally.

Questions
1) Alt +C to increase by 1 Alt + Shift + C to increase by 20
Alt + X to decrease by 1 Alt + Shift + X to decrease by 20

You can find this information in the help files under "Working with Brushes"

2) Yes, but they also have black arrows on the graphite workspace. They haven't figured out the whole UI color scheme apparently.

I find a good way is to hold the ALT Key down together with the Mouse Left Button and then
Drag the Mouse away (smaller Brush) or towards you (larger).

Thanks to both for the increase/decrease brush size tip. :D

After LeviFiction pointed that out, I indeed found the info in the help - it's surprising, however, that prior to that I had done a textual search on the PDF manual, crawled the whole Keyboard Map _and_ Googled for it and was still not able to find it! I must admit that it is an odd selection of hotkeys for something you're likely to do intensively if you're drawing... 2 (or 3) keypresses or one key + one mouse button + drag to change brush size? Is Corel getting kickbacks from chiropractors treating artists for carpal tunnel? :evil:

Basic software usability rules dictate this sort of thing should be one key away - why not comma/dot key or simply Alt+drag? These are unused as far as I can tell...

I'll keep an eye out to try and replicate the adjustment windows / object remover and put a procedure here when it next happens.

As for the Graphite theme: I get white palette arrows on graphite, so that is ok for me (though why on earth they decided to have the tab of the image you're editing dark while the others are light is beyond me) - are you getting black arrows on graphite?
