When I go to capture mode in VS 8 I get the message below;
"Failed to initialize the video capture plug-in. Another program may be using it or the file has been moved. Failed to open the driver"

I connect to a Sony Handycam which runs the MicroMV format. Download from this camera has worked before.
I have reinstalled the program with no use - I can not figure out how to solve this problem.
Anyone who knows how to fix this one?

I have the same kind of problem. Here is the question I posted. But nos solution yet...
I have UVS 8. After a few problems in the beginning, the program finally worked. I did not use it for a few months. Now I cannot capture anymore. UVS recognizes my camera (Sony TRV900E). I changed the capture module and choosed others, like Ulead Direct Show (sorry I do not know the exact terms in english : my program is in french). Moreover, I cannot use anymore the project VSP I had already saved. I can open it, I hear the soundtrack but receive no image. On the contrary, when I view the clips included in UVS (those under Video, on the right side of the screen), it works.
I receive such messages (I translate from french) :
Impossible to switch to capture mode. Check if your video capture pilot works properly. Impossible to previsualize.

(15023 : 4 : 2)
Launching of video capture module failed. Another program uses it or the file has been removed.
Opening of the pilot failed.

I have no solution after weeks of searching... Can anybody help me ?

My sympathies,
What eventually worked for me was to go to Tools and then "Change Capture plug-in". What had happened to me was that I had captured analog video and somehow the settings from this project would not reset automatically. When I chose the right plug-in which in my case was "MICRO-MV" it worked.

Thanks a lot for your kind answer. I tried to change he plug-ins (I choosed each of the 4 or 5 plug-ins ; mine should be Ulead Direct Show) : the problem remains.
In fact, I have now the same kind of problem with Windows Movie Maker...

Capture impossible : solution !
I found a solution. I used "gspot codec information appliance" (free on the web). This tool analyzes all the codecs on your pc. It gives a diagnostic for all codecs on your pc. In my case, it said : file missing for DV Video Encoder/Decoder and Win Draw. On the microsoft site, I saw that these files are associated with DirectShow/DirectX. So I downloaded the newest version of DirectX 9.0c. And... the problem is solved.
