Can't seem to renew my AACS key

Can't seem to renew my AACS key
I purchased WinDVD 9 about two years ago and haven't used it in the last year. Tonight I wanted to watch a movie and it gave me a message saying that my AACS key has expired and I need a new key. I clicked on YES to update the key but no matter what I do (and I've read all the FAQs on this subject the Corel website has to offer) it keeps leading me to a page with a message that says "Currently there is no new key or patch available for your player. Please see the following table: ( R21 ) " I don't even know what any of this means... I just want to watch a movie. None of my movies will play... not bluray nor HDDVD, even the ones that I've watch before. What do I need to do to get this software to work again??? How do I get my AACS key updated or renew or whatever... I just want to be able to use the software again, is that too much to ask? I also emailed tech support, we'll see how that goes.
Re: Can't seem to renew my AACS key
I hate it when posters end up answering their own postings for help BUT...
ignore my plea for help because I managed to solve it myself last night. For anyone else that may be experiencing this same issue...
Evidently what that error message means is that I already have a current key and all the current updates. All I had to do was ignore that start-up message that my AACS key has expired and select "NO" for the offer to go online to update. After I select NO the movie just starts right up playing on its own. By selecting YES as I had been doing, the player would just hang, while another window it opened up behind the player screen with that error message I quoted above... and even after closing that window (I have to use task manager to even get to that window) the player continues to hang and do nothing. I wish I could stop the player from giving me that AACS expired message each time I start it up but at least it does work after I select NO and for that I'm happy.

Hello monomer,
There are a lot of factors to consider in order for you to properly update the AACS of your Windvd 9, updating your WinDVD 9 will help. You can locate all the updates for WinDVD 9 from this link: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 7077511419.
If you still need to troubleshoot the program, you can access WinDVD and AACS Key Update, for some troubleshooting steps.

Re: Can't seem to renew my AACS key
Unfortunately, clicking on "no" didn't work for me.
I have an LG GW-H20L internal Blu-Ray drive with the latest firmware rev (Y05, 06/2010). It plays the latest Avatar Blu-Ray using Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 with no problems.
When I try to play Avatar with Corel WinDVD9, however, I get the "AACS Key Expired" message. I too get the "Table R21" message when I click on "Yes" to update the key. If I click on "No", the Blu-Ray disc displays a message saying that my player and/or software needs to be upgraded in order to play the BD.
Since the player has the latest firmware and Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 can play Avatar, it's clear where the problem is - Corel WinDVD 9.
I opened a ticket with Corel support on this issue. First they told me that no AACS key updates were available for Corel WinDVD9, and that it was no longer a supported product. They suggested that I upgrade to WinDVD 10.
I replied saying if that was the case, the issue was open and unresolved. They started sending me messages saying that if they didn't hear from me in 7 days, they'd consider the issue resolved. So, I kept replying that it wasn't resolved. The AACS key was expired and they weren't providing the update or supporting WinDVD9. That meant "unresolved".
They responded by sending me the information you provided in those links. When those instructions were followed, I wound up back at the "Table R21 error message." Along the way, I found that I had the latest version of WinDVD9, so that wasn't the problem either.
But the problem persists and Corel seems to be able to do nothing about it but keep repeating the instructions that don't work.
One thing is certain - if WinDVD9 is really being dropped from support, I won't be buying WinDVD 10. How long before they drop support for that?
Looks like I'll be switching to Cyberlink full time now.
In the meantime, if anyone else using WinDVD9 has figured out how to resolve this AACS key error, please, please post here!
Thanks for your time,
Big Al Mintaka

Re: Can't seem to renew my AACS key
Big Al,
When I had WinDVD 8, I received the message about the AACS key expired a number of times. It took me a while to figure out that I needed to be logged into the corel.com web site before I tried to retrieve the new key. If I wasn't logged in ahead of time, the application kept having trouble getting the key. You might try that, if you haven't already. Other than that, I'm afraid I can't be of much help.
I eventually upgraded to WinDVD 2010 Pro in early 2010. So far, it hasn't asked me to renew the key.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for that advice. I logged in to my Corel account using Internet Explorer 8, placed the Avatar Blu-Ray in the LG drive, and started WinDVD9. It prompted me to renew the AACS key and I clicked "Yes". When I did, Internet Explorer displayed a webpage with this message:
"Thank you for visiting Corel.com. Our Web site is currently undergoing maintenance.
If you require product support, please search the Corel Support knowledge base.
If you would like to purchase a product from Corel, please visit the Corel Store.
Thank you for your patience and please check back soon to continue your visit to Corel.com."
Once again, Corel has failed to complete a simple support task. Between this post and my previous one, Corel support responded to my report that their latest advice merely repeated the "Table R21" error. Now they've switched back to their original response: they no longer support Corel WinDVD9 and they suggest that I purchase the upgrade to Corel WinDVD 2010.
Naturally I'm not about to do that. I'll try your suggestion again later to see if this website "maintenance" error has been resolved.
Thanks,
Big Al Mintaka

Hi Jeff,
Corel has apparently finished "maintenance" on its website. I logged on to my account, placed the Avatar BD in the drive, started WinDVD9 and got the prompt to renew my AACS key. This time when I clicked on "yes", I got the "Table R21" error again.
I expected as much, but when I looked closer at my account I noticed something else. My list of registered Corel products showed Graphics Suite 12, but not Graphics Suite X3 or WinDVD9. I thought maybe the logon approach to AACS key upgrades wasn't working because my account didn't show Corel WinDVD9 as a registered product, so I attempted to add it to my registered product list. When I did this, I got a message saying it was already registered.
It is already registered - to me. Only it doesn't show up in my list of registered products.
I've sent a request for support via email. If I can register my products but not add them to my account, logging on to my account for product upgrades like AACS keys isn't going to do much good.
Since trying to fix one error has revealed another, I should probably take this to another thread. If I can resolve this registration **and then** try the AACS key upgrade again, I'l post back here with the results; but given how fouled up Corel is, I doubt I'll be back.
Looks like Cyberlink PowerDVD is going to solve this problem, not Corel.

Did Corel ever resolve this? I'm having the same problem. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. I feel like I've been ripped off by Corel.

Hi
Not sure?
Can you search the Knowledge Base you may find other answers, I found this info:-
I get the message that "The AACS Key will expire soon” or “The AACS Key has expired". What does this mean?
