I want to be able to burn a dvd that I can put into a dvd player and it will start playing. I simply want to bypass all these fancy headings, titles, menus etc

If you have downloaded Movie Factory 7 SE to use as your burning module, then simply untick the 'Create Menu' box on the page where you insert video files for burning.
If you are still using the awful DVD Factory "Pro" 2010, then I am afraid that one of its awful characteristics is that it will not allow burning a DVD without a menu!

Thanks
It is sad that far too often new versions actually make things worse.
