Considering purchase of Video Studio X3

Post by Ricohoc »

Hello everyone.

I'm having difficulty finding specifics about what the program does and doesn't do. I was hoping someone could help me with some frank answers.

Thanks in advance! :D

- Does it handle and edit AVCHD files from Sony Camcorders?
- Can .flv files be imported and edited?
- Can .flv files be created without file size limitations?
- Can audio be unlocked from the video and the audio completely deleted from video (making the video file size smaller)?
- Has anyone had any problems with the online download version or installation of same on Win 7 Home?
- How would you rate the special effects, transitions, titling, etc.?
- Is is relatively easy to create custom effects and titling?

Appreciate answers to these questions and anything else that you can provide that may be helpful in my decision to purchase X3.

Thanks!

- Does it handle and edit AVCHD files from Sony Camcorders? Yes
- Can .flv files be imported and edited? No
- Can .flv files be created without file size limitations? VS can create FLV files of various sizes.
- Can audio be unlocked from the video and the audio completely deleted from video (making the video file size smaller)? Yes, you can split the audio from the video, and delete it. VS is a non-destructive video editing program. Your original source clips are not touched. You work with virtual clips, then when finished editing, you render your project to a new video file. If you were to remove the audio, then render your video file minus the audio (Some formats simply do not allow this, even if there is no audio present, a "blank" audio track will be mixed in), the file might be smaller, depending on the bitrate used.
- Has anyone had any problems with the online download version or installation of same on Win 7 Home? Yes there are some that have had these problems. If you read some of the posts, you will see this and that most have been resolved.
- How would you rate the special effects, transitions, titling, etc.? As good as what I've seen with other similar NLEs.
- Is is relatively easy to create custom effects and titling? Most all the effects are key-frameable, and numerous have other customizable settings. The titles have "template moving paths" that can be applied, along with about any of the video filters/effects.

Appreciate answers to these questions and anything else that you can provide that may be helpful in my decision to purchase X3.

Thanks!
Best thing to do is download the 30-day trial and see if it is what you're looking for.

- How would you rate the special effects, transitions, titling, etc.?
My experience has been very good with the effects, transitions, and titling...good choices are presented in the program.
- Is is relatively easy to create custom effects and titling? Yes, you would need to practice a bit before getting used of all the features''

as you can see, I agree with the other reviewers...

also I suspect version 4 is around the corner...so you can "bite the bullet" now...or wait

Appreciate the welcome and the responses, fellows. Much obliged!

I will download the trial and see what's up.

Would either of you be able to compare X3 to Pinnacle 14? Just curious.

Well, I made the leap and purchased X3 today.

I'll install it later and hope that I don't have the same installation issues that others have had. Here's hoping that my experiences with Video X3 are as good as I have had with CorelDRAW (v3 to the present).

Thanks again for your help, guys. 8)

EDIT: Knock on wood ... installed, opened and began working as it should. :D
