VS Pro X3 Crashes Constantly, 3 call to tech with no success

Post by sloca »

I am able to open my file but as soon as I click on a picture or a transition or try to do anything I get this error message "Corel VideoStudio Pro has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program & notify you if a solution is available. " OR "Corel VideoStudio Pro has encountered an unspecified error and has stop functioning. Please contact Corel Tech support".

My files are still in the .vsp format. I am in the process of making a video with over 300 photos for a Christmas present. When I started I was using "Ulead VS 9". Then I bought VS Pro X3 and install and my problems began. Tech support did off sight checking on my computer and found that I needed to uninstall both versions and then reinstall VS Pro X3 and also to update the drivers on my video card then I would be good to go. Great! NO!. It is still crashing so I call back a few days later and tech support says to download the patches, so I do, this does not work either. I am still crashing. Third call and tech support is of no help at all, he said that I need a new patch that isn't out yet and it may not work either.Thank you for calling. Great now what. I have a job due. Today the techs have been in conferences so No return phone calls.

Saw on this site where the new patch has been released have already installed and I still have the problem. Desperate for help

You sent me a private message -- sorry but we have a rule that we do not answer private messages. The idea is that everyone should benefit from questions and answers. However, you asked me how to send Abiel a message. That is simple. Go back to the thread where you asked your question, and check Abiel's profile. Down at the bottom of that profile, there are icons to be able to send him either a private message or email. See the attached image. Use one of those. And in case you can't find your last message, go to http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 29#p208429

So you also are using over 300 photos, and also called tech support 3 times, and downloaded and installed the patches, and now it just crashes?

Could it be that you're having a problem with VS crashing, and may be due to something else? Please read this Sticky Thread, and provide us with more information as what's happening. We then stand a better chance of providing you with a more accurate solution. If it was possible to look over your shoulder while you're working then I could tell why VS is crashing. I could see the types files you're using, how you captured or transferred them into your PC, any editing that your attempting to do, and so on. However right now all I can see is what this web board shows me..;)

Guys, I'm getting the same "VideoStudio Pro has stopped working" msg.
Its always done this. I've had the program for a few months at best. However, roughly 50 percent of the time I can edit and render small movies about 5 minutes in length without any problems. Other times, while editing a video of the same length, I keep getting the msg and the program stops working. My clips are shot on a GoPro HD camera in MPEG4 H.264.
I typically shoot short clips up to 5 minutes or so in length each and then edit several of these short clips into a movie. Again, the final movie is usually no longer than 5 minutes in length.
I may get the msg while editing, rendering or simply viewing an unfinished project that has been saved. It "seems" to be happening more often lately.

Minutes ago, I was simply checking out different Title Effects in the time-line and the program kept stopping. No video, no music, no nothing...Just 2 or 3 words in the title track and a Lighting Effect and the program kept freezing giving me the msg.

I also tried Corel Support but the 48 hour turnaround between emails was of no help. I'm about ready to jack this program off my computer and go elsewhere but thought I'd see if you guys could help me out. I like the program "when it works" but it just isn't stable enough to earn my trust.
I realize that it may be something with my PC or perhaps I'm missing a patch. I'M simply at a loss.
I would very much appreciate your help and assistance with this issue.
Thanks very much~

Welcome to the forums Caimen, :)
Before you actually choose another program, spend some time on their web boards to see the problems they have. I'll throw one out that I recently purchased because I thought it was actually better than VS. I ran the 30-day trial before, and had no problems with it. Then one day I started seeing the problems when you get into some complex editing. Heck it's suppose to be able to edit 3D Stereo video.. the name is MEP. You want a crop effect like the crop filter in VS? You have to create it using several video tracks. I'm thinking more and more how I wasted my money on it. Corel has its problems, believe me I know and complain to them about it, but the others are having very similar problems with the AVCHD codecs.

My guess is that even the heavy-hitters like FCP cause people to pull their hair out. How would you like to spend around $1,000+ for software, then have to spend several hundreds more for any filters and effects or another $1k more so you can burn discs, and have it constantly crashing?

I also think that the Win7 OS is throwing a monkey-wrench into some programs stability. While I don't edit AVCHD, HDV, or run Win7, I will rarely have VS crash on my Vista or XP machines editing the simple DV (avi) or even some of the higher compressed formats as WMV, and DivX.

I've read the specs that the GoPro HD records to. It does have one mode that records 60fps. Are you by chance using this? If so VS can not handle the 60fps. It does weird things with it, thinking it is only 30fps. I also downloaded a couple of example clips from YouTube, made with the GoPro HD. The video properties of the clips from YouTube are:

Is this the properties of the video files you're working with? If so, I've not had a problem yet with them. I'm running a Vista laptop, and it is about 1/3 the machine you're using. I would think that VS would have crashed on me by now.

Thanks for the quick reply Ron.
Like I said, I really like this program. I'm new to the video editing process and I find x3 pretty easy to learn, very intuitive and it seems to have plenty of features.
My preference would be to fix the issue or at least determine what is causing the problem and work around it if reasonable to do so.
You mentioned FPS and yes, I'm shooting the GoPro Hero HD in R3 mode which is 720x1280 @60fps. Here are the properties from one of my clips...

I'll try shooting at 30 fps and see what happens and continue searching for other possible answers to my problem.
Thanks again for your help and insight. If anything else comes to mind...please holler.
