But does Autosave let you go back to a previous version? I do a save_as adding a version code top the name so I can redo a few steps if I do not like what I have done. I am not referring to the undo feature which only applies to the current session.

As far as I'm aware, no. It's just like using the save button so it will overwrite what you currently have. If you save as a PSPImage and make your changes mostly in layers it wouldn't be a problem. Otherwise the Save_As is best.

No, AutoSave is not for that purpose.
It is simply to recove your work if PSP crashes
but that is a good enough reason in itself :P

If you set it to Enable AutoSave every 5 minutes or so,
then if PSP crashes it automatically restores the last AutoSaved copy
when you re-start PSP.
Voila
More or less I was aware of that, Tadjio, but I have never been able to make it work. I’m not sure what “Important! You must save your file initially for the Autosave feature to function. The feature does not save new, unsaved files” means
I don’t know how and where I have to save my file initially in order to make the feature Autosave work.
I made a test, I worked a little on a picture then I closed it and I had a window asking me if I wanted to save it, I clicked “yes” then I closed the program. When I opened it again I went to look for the presumed saved picture, but I didn’t find anything…
So far I work in a very rough and empirical way. That is I save in one of my folder my work after every important step and only when the picture is fully processed and saved in its final version, I go to delete the phase saved pictures from my folder of backup.
I save my temporary pictures in PSP of Photoshop format in order to be able to readjust them in case.
I’m sure there is a much better way to proceed, but so far I’m not sure how…
For me it’s important to not lose my work in a way or in another.
I’m a relatively not too poor photographer, but as for all is related with technical matters of programs I’m a real disaster, so I try to find alternative methods which are surely twisted, but at least for me can work a little until someone doesn’t explain me how to do better.
You are all very kind in this forum, so I thank all of you in advance.
Best

PSPP uses your Windows Temp folder for this. You can however direct it to the folder of your liking.
Corel PSPP Help wrote:To find out where Corel PaintShop Photo Pro saves the autosaved files, select File Preferences File Locations and select the Undo/ Temporary Files folder from the File Type list.
In the Undo/Temporary Files, press the Browse button, navigate to the folder you want PSPP to use. I have one set up under my Pictures, called PSPP Temp Files. However once you save and close PSPP, the auto-save files will be deleted. They are temporary used just in case the program crashes. The temp files will be in PSPP's proprietary working file format, PSP.

Well there are certainly bugs in PSP X3 and a few things I don't like. At least with the e-mail tech support I have encountered with various programs about half of them send cut and paste useless answers. Also the famed.... "uninstall and reinstall" is a classic..... as is the old, "obviously a conflict which is because of ***" (insert name of drivers, hardware, other software etc. here.) SO, IMHO it isn't just Corel software which doesn't have great support.

Because the new organizer window has so disrupted my workflow, I have gone to another program which does a lot of what I want and turn to PSP X3 on very few occasions. IMHO all software has either bugs or workflow issues you may not like. The software that a lot of people say they are moving to (PS) has a ton..... read their forums some time. Generally, I find (found) PSP a decent program and between manuals, the web page and the kind folks here, I could usual get the info to make it work.
Adverts for Corel products when you close PSP don't bother me.

I don't know where that quote is from and it is wrong

Try the following:
1) Set up AutoSave as I described - use 5 minutes.
2) Create a New Image (or you can Open an existing one, it doesn't matter).
3) Do some work on it and wait at least 5 minutes for the AutoSave to happen.
4) Look in the folder defined under File Preferences \ Preferences \ File Locations \ Undo/Temp Files
where you will see files such as 331270IDE31B.PspAutosave and pspE31C.tmp - these are the AutoSaved files, as well as
earlier Undo Files of the form PSPCnnn.tmp in lower folders.
5) 'Crash' PSP by shutting it down with the Task Manager.
6) Restart PSP and your AutoSaved image should reappear :D

Attached is a sample I did just now

Hi,

I was having the same problem which only seemed to start following update (patch 3). I've just gone through process of re-installing PSP Pro X3 and have only applied patch 1 and 2. Both Digital Camera Noise Removal and One Step Noise removal are working fine now with multi-layered files.

Quick update - patch 4 is now available and has corrected the multi-layer bug.

@Marisa

At first, I do apologise for the support you had received.

Dave40 mentioned this already, SP 4 has solved this problem.

The problem didn't only appear with multi-layer, but also with PNG transparency.
I work for the Corel UK Support. I will not give technical support through this forum and my answer is only related to this thread.

It's funny you refer to what corel does as "support". I have yet to get any real help from corel "support" or actually talk to a real person. And the paid support? please, corel has a lot of balls wanting to charge for support when the products they crank out are so deeply flawed. Here's a tip for corel, make an effort to release software and patches that have been tested and for god sake support your customers when your product is a failure. Every other software company can do it.

It appears that this topic/thread is going off topic, and really is too general. This web board (which this forum is a part of), is for helping each other with problems. It is not for ranting, venting, and bashing members. The forum staff are looking at these type of posts more closely. If you think that venting your anger over your product is helping someone, think again. You want to post your anger, or vent, open up Notepad, or whatever text editor you have, and type your anger there. Once you're done, then delete it, which is what will happen to it here!!
