It's confirmed, there is a bug in PSP Pro X3

Post by Marisa »

Hello,
This is to inform you of something which might be of interest.
I had been obliged to cope with troubles since I bought and installed paint Shop pro X3 a little less than two months ago.
I realized immediately that in Paint Shop Pro X3 the tools Digital Camera Noise Removal and One Step Noise removal, if are used on a layered photo ( a duplicated photo) don’t work and force the program to get closed instead, and all disappear all the work gets lost!
I asked the Support centre of Corel for help, I received only standard copied and pasted instruction to uninstall the program and install it again and the suggestion to ask for help here in the forum.
I did, but I only received the same copied and pasted description of the procedure to uninstall and install the program again from a moderator of the forum who is also member of Corel Staff.
I trusted his suggestion and carefully followed all the procedure and my problems were multiplied because I could not reinstall properly the program from my original setup file, since the program refused to get open once installed and I received a message of error claiming it was an illegal copy.
I had to insist for a couple of days writing to customer support and trying to have help in the live chat (totally useless this one, they can only give usual copied and pasted versions of FaQ and are unable to listen to the real problems)
At last I had a file to download the full zipped file of the DVD and it took me more than one hours to download it, but them from it I could finally reinstall my PSP X3 and to open the program….simply to find out that it was for nothing, since the problems with the tools I mentioned above were the same as before.
Luckily I could find a toll-free number which put me in contact by phone with Corel EMEA technical Support where at least I found a competent person who was able to listen.
She was so kind and responsible to listen to me and to grasp what I was trying to explain and instead of treating me like a fool, she trusted me and took the time to make all necessary controls following the description of my problems.
Then guess what…she tried on her computer and she had exactly the same identical problem with the program I had!
It was a little triumph for me against the autistic attitude I had found so far in your support centre.
She admitted the problem is in the program and she told me I was perfectly right and it didn’t depend on my version of the program or on my computer.
She checked with my help all the data of my computer which is perfect and well working and brand new with the best graphic card and all what is necessary.
She asked me what action I tried to do when the problem happened, she repeated exactly the same on her computer and she had exactly the same problem.
The program got frozen and then got closed by itself and the tools don’t work.
Exactly as I had tried to repeat to all of you for days!!!!
But nobody, except this person had paid any attention to my remarks, I was asked to uninstall and install again for 6 times, I lost a lot of time and the problem was always there, nobody listened!
The competent lady I had finally at the phone told me she will pass the information to the programmers’ team, because actually the program Paint Shop Pro X3 has a bug which must be solved, not my copy of it, the program itself.
So the problem is that in paint Shop Pro X3 the tools Digital Camera Noise Removal and One Step Noise removal, if are used on a layered photo ( a duplicated photo) don’t work and force the program to get closed instead, and all disappear all the work gets lost!
In the former version of Paint Shop Pro, for example X2, there were other little problems, but not this one.
I asked the leady from Corel EMEA technical Support, what I could do and she honestly answered “Nothing, it depends on the program, which needs to be fixed and corrected by programmers”.
I think you might know all that, to prevent other poor users who find the same problems to repeat my ordeal of uninstalling and reinstalling for nothing.
Best regards

I gave her name with all my congratulations and praises to Corel Support.
But I don’t think it’s a good idea to make her name public on the forum.
Anyhow I always recommend trying to speak directly with a member of Technical support instead of writing emails or using live chat.
Live chat is totally useless, the people who answer are not qualified and they have only a list of FaQ to copy and paste.
If you insist kindly in asking something specific they admit they don’t know or have not any idea.

I saw your topic and just had to laugh.

I know what you mean. I always use the phone technical support for this very reason. Two people have been useless but most of the time they are exceedingly helpful. :D

It was a little triumph for me against the autistic attitude I had found so far in your support centre.
Just for the record, it is not "our" support centre -- it is Corel's... This Board is run by users, and it is very rare for Corel employees to visit it. This is with the recent exception of two Corel support staff who now visit this and other forums fairly regularly to offer suggestions.
I only received the same copied and pasted description of the procedure to uninstall and install the program again from a moderator of the forum who is also member of Corel Staff.
I am not aware of any Corel employee who is also a moderator of this forum...

You are totally right, Ken and I apologize, the misunderstanding is due to the fact I copied and pasted the message I wrote to Corel Support, because I thought it could be of interest for other forum users and I neglected to check the use of the pronoun “ you” which might sound directed to the members of this forum, while was directed to Corel support staff.
English is not my mother tongue since I’m Swiss, so I try to do what I can.

As for the forum user I wrongly indicated as a moderator, this is my mistake, I read he was a member of Corel support and I don’t know why I thought he was a moderator of this forum as well. I apologize for this confusion.

I think anyway that the meaning of my post was rather clear; it was just to inform the forum users
Have a nice day

Marisa,
You are being too nice anyway. There are "many" confirmed bugs in PSPPX3. Some day they will be fixed.
(And I believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny too).

I know there many are, even though I have developed a kind of liking for Paint Shop Pro in spite of all that, during the years…
But what had disturbed me is the attitude of the so-called support of Corel, because they are surely aware there are bugs and instead of listening to customers and eventually to apologize and assure them it depends on a program flaw, they have this autistic way to react, keeping on sending the same link to the same FaQ answer which has nothing to do with the problem a customer has to cope with and has spent time to try to explain in details.
At the beginning I was so naïve to trust them, so I followed their useless suggested manipulations and I simply posted here to prevent other users, as naïve as me to waste the same huge amount of time uninstalling and reinstalling again the program just for nothing, but having other problems as a only consequence.
I know it’s a utopia to expect any real improvement from Corel Customer support, but as Einstein used to say “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.”
I wish a very nice day to all of you!

Definitely I have to try to remain faithful to my Swiss little philosophy instead of smashing all Corel products down…
I had been working for nearly two hours on a picture and when I was nearly at the end of the treatment…. idiotic Paint Shop Pro X3 froze and got suddenly closed, even though I had avoided carefully to utilize the two tools for removing digital noise which, I know, have the bug which makes the program get blocked .
This time it simply remained stuck and then all disappeared, my work included of course.
It’s time to pass to PhotoShop… :D
I wish a nice weekend to everyone!

In general always save after complicated steps. There are many things that can crash a computer often in an unrelated process.

The general rule for any application is save frequently.

This is not to excuse any application problem but just general advice on any platform.

You are absolutely right….
I have just finished reprocessing my picture and I maniacally saved it after every step and…guess it…this time, when I had my wise backup, nothing crashed and I could finish safely!
Good night from extremely snowy Switzerland to all of you and thank you for your support.

Marisa, are you aware of the File Preferences \ AutoSave Settings?
If you set it to Enable AutoSave every 5 minutes or so,
then if PSP crashes it automatically restores the last AutoSaved copy
when you re-start PSP.
Voila
