Audio completely messed up when saving as .flv

Post by bobham »

Hi:
I had been using VSX2 on my old computer (XP Home OS) and saving my projects as .flv files for uploading to Youtube with no issues. Last spring I put together a new computer which I thought would be much better and faster at rendering the files. The new computer uses Windows 7 64 bit and I applied the VSX2 patch for Windows 7. When I save a project as a .flv file on the new computer the audio in the resulting file is totally messed up, just hisses, pops and crackles. The video looks fine. Saving projects in other video formats seems to work okay. I did not really look too hard for a solution at the time as other interests took priority.

I recently got back into wanting to post video to Youtube and have been trying to figure out what is causing the audio problem. I purchased the upgrade to VSX3, assuming that would fix it but the results are still the same. I do have other software that will not run on Windows 7 so I have set my computer up to dual boot with XP Pro. As an experiment, after I upgraded the Windows 7 OS to VSX3 I installed the redundant copy of VSX2 on the XP Pro OS. I then used the same original files from the camcorder to re-create as nearly as I could the same project as I had been trying to make with the W7 VSX3 on the XP VSX2 version. The file produced in XP works perfectly with no audio issues.

As a side note, the file size of the same project produced in W7 VSX3 is almost double the file size produced in XP VSX2. I am "Create Video File" as FLV (640x480). I see from another thread that I may be better to be saving as FLV(320x240) although that doesn't make sense to me. I am not very knowledgeable about the different formats and their uses. I did produce one series as mp4 files but the video quality seemed to be poorer than the way I had been doing it.

Thanks for any help or suggestions
Bob

Hi Bob

I don’t know just what is happening here, I don’t use Windows 7
Out of interest I created a Flv using X3 and X2, the file sizes were identical,
So I can only assume that both versions are using the same template.

Direct X
There have been some issued cured by manually updating Direct X.
Even though you have the latest versions via Auto Updates, the manual approach has helped. There is a post /link at the top of this forum. I recommend that you update As far as I know this is the latest version directx_Jun2010_redist.exe
Installation is in three parts, Download, Extract files, Install by running DXSETUP.exe

You Tube
The frame size used should reflect the original video frame size and aspect ratio.
If you are using widescreen 16:9 then your flash should use a 16:9 ratio, you would have to use Make Movie Templates Manager to create your template.

You do not need flash file to upload, other formats are also accepted.
Knowing your original properties would help

Completing the project,
I tend to render my project to same as first clip, this creates a video file using the original properties, then using this file convert to Flash.

Thanks, Trevor:
I did get a form letter from Corel recommending updating Visual C++, DirectX using that June download, and my video card drivers as well as applying the VS patches. I did those things without getting any change in my output file when I reloaded the project and re-saved it under a new file name. I have since downloaded and installed the VS Service Pack 3 update mentioned in another thread down the page but I haven't had a chance to render the project again.

My camcorder is a JVC Everio HDD camcorder and it produces files with extension .MOD (The HDD stands for hard disk drive, not high definition.) Other than the software that came with the camera, Videostudio is the only program I have that will play back the files from the camera. The output file from Windows XP using VSX2 was 53.4 mb and plays perfectly. The output file from Windows 7 using VSX3 (and previously, VSX2) was 99.4 mb and the sound is all messed up. I am using VLC to playback the .flv files.

I did do one series as .mp4 files but that really seemed to increase the upload time and the quality of the video once it had been converted to the Youtube format after uploading did not seem to be as good to my eye. Ten minute segments averaged about 110 mb as mp4 files.

I really wonder if I have all my settings correct on this computer. I really don't see much of a difference in rendering time over my previous computer, even though this one has three times as many CPU cores and four times the on-board video memory on the video cards. It still takes 15 to 20 minutes to render a 10 minute segment to a .flv file. Is that normal?

Thanks
Bob

P.S.: I have rendered the project with the service pack 3 patch installed and it is still the same.
