Constant Crashing when viewing edited projects

Post by marp57 »

I recently installed VideoStudio Pro X3. Whenever I play back anything I tried edit the program crashes and a dump file error shows. I have tried using the smart proxy without success. I am trying to edit HD files *.mov. The files are only a couple of minutes so that should not be an issue. I also tried closing all other programs. When I try and playback I can only see a couple of seconds before it crashes. I am wondering if my computer does not have the resources to edit HD. I have 1024 MB of Ram.

Have you applied the patches to X3? I believe the most recent one addressed problems with .mov files. With that being said, I would say a P4 is not sufficient for editing HD .mov files, and the patches may not do you any good.

If the .mov files are in fact AVCHD mpeg-4 -- as I believe them to be -- then no, your computer simply does not have enough grunt to play them smoothly. If it has hyperthreading, as some 2.8 GHz P4 processors do -- then it might be able to edit (slowly) using SmartProxy, but it would still be unable to play the video smoothly or without crashing. Apart from being widely known, that was also my personal experience when I tried this on my old P4 3.0 GHz with HT (and 4 GB RAM)...

hey I uploaded the patch and it helped things it is not crashing. However, I do not hear sound when I play back. My .mov files comes from a Kodak Z3 flash cam.

Ok the patch seems to work in terms of crashing. Now I have a new problem. I have no audio when I play back a project. However I have audio if I play back the same video as a clip. I tried to burn something and I do not hear the audio. Sometimes you hear some brief audible noise sometimes nothing. In the clip format I hear it no problems. What now?
