does patch 2 or 3 fix "preview on image"?
I recently installed PSPPX3 from CD, which contained version 13.0.0.274. I encountered the problem some other users have/had: when editing an image in a dialog that has the option "preview on image" turned ON, the program stops responding. It does not shut down, and some top level menu's are still accessible, but nothing works anymore. All I can do is shut it down in task manager.
I would like to know if any of the patches fixes this problem. I do not want to install patches that may introduce new issues without knowing that it will at least fix this one. I read the release notes for Patch 2, but it doesn't mention this bug explicitly. I can not find any official info on Patch 3, it even looks like it has not officially been released yet? I emailed Corel support last week but did not get any reply yet, so I'm hoping someone on this forum has any information about this bug and its fix?
(I know about the work around of disabling 'preview ion image' everywhere, but I would rather be able to use the feature).

I have the latest patch installed, and I don't seem to be having the problem anymore. I don't know which patch fixed the preview on image problem because I hardly use X3. I have reverted back to X2U until X3 is in much better shape (if ever). I just tested several functions with "preview on image" selected and had no problems.

Thank you for the info, but, just to be sure, did you have the problem before installing the updates? It seems that only a small number of users did experience this bug.

I had this problem at first and the first patch fixed it. I believe that patch 3 includes 2 and 1, so you should be fine.

Re: does patch 2 or 3 fix "preview on image"?
Hmm, I'm afraid that leaves me with another question: Patch 1 gets you to version 13.0.0.253, and I'm already on 13.0.0.274, so if Patch 1 fixed it, it got unfixed between 253 and 274.

Patch 3 shows as 13.2.1.15 on my PSPPX3 using either the Organizer or Full Editor Help/About dialog.

Did you get any release notes with that patch? I really don't want to update without having any clue about what the update does.

Re: does patch 2 or 3 fix "preview on image"?
Sounds to me like you do want to update.
First there are no clear lists on every bug fixed so you'll always be somewhat in the dark. If you look at the third patch topic you see an image with text written on it that gives some idea about what the patch fixes or improves. None of it appears to be interface related.
Second, if it can improve X3 and you have a chance for this bug to go away you might as well try it. It's highly unlikely that it will break X3. And if it doesn't work then at least you have whatever else came with it.

Re: does patch 2 or 3 fix "preview on image"?
I definitely had the "preview on image" problem, which was the main reason I quit using X3. I don't remember if I even tested again after the previous patch, but it does seem to be fixed now. (I'm still sticking with X2U)

Re: does patch 2 or 3 fix "preview on image"?
Well, I installed Patch 2, and it fixed most of the problems, but one remains: when editing Levels and selecting one of the seperate color channels, PSP freezes. Memory usage is high, but CPU usage is Zero. Then after a minute or so it comes to life again. But strangely, when I select the Green channel it freezes and never comes back to life. The Blue channel seems to be OK, reacting quite quickly and no freezes here.
I'll be trying Patch 3 in a few days.

Re: does patch 2 or 3 fix "preview on image"?
Are you working on larger images? Do you work on multiple images at one time? I ask because this would certainly cause PSPP to run slow and freeze up times when run on a lower-end system. I noticed that you're using WInXP on a AMD Sempron box, with only 1 gig of RAM. I have a an AMD Athlon which is rated faster than the Sempron's , running WinXP, but I found that I needed 2 gig for anything to run smoothly. WinXP requires a major part of your 1 gig for it to run.
Now PSPP X3 is somewhat of a memory hog itself. I find it to run slow on my Intel Dual Core, with 2 gig of RAM, at times, especially if I try working with multiple images. Just something for you to consider to help smooth things out.

Re: does patch 2 or 3 fix "preview on image"?
I am aware of the rather outdated specifications of my PC, so I'm not blaming PSP for being slow. That is to be expected, and I try to run it without much else running. But you're right, it would be best to try and run it without XP
But I almost never work on multiple images, and mostly use jpg's of 3 to 5 MB, I don't do RAW in PSP.

Re: does patch 2 or 3 fix "preview on image"?
Unless one of the recent patches fixed it, PSPPX3 had a problem with not releasing memory. People using the more powerful i7's had big problems, so I would imagine that guys like us, with the older machines would really have issues with that.

Unless there is a fourth patch I'm not familiar with the memory bug has not been fixed.
