Same problem here, after upgrade of PSP X3 with patch3 neither Topaz Remask 2 nor Remask 3 versions work anymore. Error: "cannot get mask layer".
Both plugins worked before Corel released the patch nr. 3.
The only solution is to roll back PSP to a version without patch nr. 3.
According to Topaz Labs, they already contacted Corel to find a solution.
I personally think that Corel did the damage and Corel should repair it.
Just my two cents.
Background Remover and Topaz ReMask

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
The same here, exactly the same.
Then suddenly today Paint Shop Pro X3 stopped working with plugs-in if applied to layers, while until yesterday it worked with plugs-in on layers, except Topaz ReMask, which has never worked.
Is it possible to uninstall only patch #3 without uninstalling and reinstalling Paint Shop Pro X3?
I’m afraid to uninstall the program again, because unluckily I have already done it following the former and totally useless suggestions of Corel support team and the only result was that I could not uninstall the program properly since it appeared always corrupted and I had to try several times and finally they understood I was not a visionary and sent me the link to full DVD and I manage to reinstall the program from there, losing a lot of time.
Paint Shop Pro X3 is instable unreliable and it’s a pity, because I’d like its features if only I could use all.
Saying I’m not satisfied with Corel and its customers service would be simply a euphemism.
If anyone could explain me how to uninstall only the patch # 3 without uninstall the whole program I’d be infinitely grateful
Best wishes to all

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
Marisa,
I don't believe it's possible to only uninstall Patch 3. Sadly, I am in the same boat as you. My installation was a nightmare and I had to go through Tech Support, who after a failed attempt to activate the program, pointed me to the CD Image for a successful installation. The tech support people I have dealt with have been great - very patient, knowledgeable and helpful. They stuck with me until the problem was resolved. It's just a shame that there are so many issues that they have to be involved in fixing.
With that being said, if you do go for another uninstall/reinstall, make sure your folders (plug-ins, patterns, masks, etc.) are backed up to a separate location as PSP X3 removes them.
I realize this is a user to user forum, but it would be nice if someone from Corel would stop by and give us an update on what they are doing about patch 3 and come up with a way to back out their patches without doing a complete uninstall/reinstall.

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
Kathy.
Thank you for your answer.
I went through the tech support people and they were actually very understanding and sympathetic and they were able to listen to my reasons as well.
As for the bugs I had found in PSPX3 one of them tried on her computer to do the same as me and actually her program got frozen as it happens to mine and she told me there is nothing I could do, but was obviously a bug of the program.
So I cannot complain about the tech support by phone, what is really poor is the customers support by email directly from Corel site.
I thank you for your advice, you are right; luckily I had saved all my plugins and other folders in a separate location, so I didn’t lose them.
After reinstalling PSPX3 things more or less worked with the other plugins, except Topaz Remask, which has never worked because of the Patch#3 it seems (I was told to download the patch when I complained for the problems with the program). But today I cannot use any plug-in on a layer, only on a simple background image.
I cannot use the remove noise tools on layers either, it makes the program get automatically closed (this is the bug which was confirmed by the tech service)
I really regret PSPX2 which worked better for me.
Now I don’t know if it’s the case to follow once again the long and boring procedure to uninstall and install again, because I’m not sure it’s worthwhile.
Corel should really to give a look at this forum and offers us some answers, as you suggested.
Best wishes
Marisa

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
Silly question but have any of you tried to increase the bit depth to 16 bit before trying the Topaz Remask?
Regards, Dan

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
No, but I just tried it - figured it was worth a shot. But. . . no joy.

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
It didn’t change anything for me either, but thank you for trying to help.
PSPX3 is giving me a lot of troubles.
I cannot apply most of effects on layers, only on a single back ground image (I mean effect from plug-ins)
Some tools make the program got suddenly closed.
I’m really disappointed.
