Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
I am trying to use the background remover that is included in X2 in X3 and it does not work. Also Topaz Labs ReMask does not work in X3 but works fine in X2. Any body have any suggestions.
Thanks

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
Can you tell us what you mean by it does not work? Because there are lots of ways it can't work.
If you're referring to that it doesn't erase or it erases with a color instead of transparency that's probably because the layer is a background layer.
You can't use the background remover on a background raster layer, you need to promote it to a raster layer. It's supposed to convert it automatically for you but it doesn't always.
So more information is always good for us to help you with.
With the plugin, not showing up is one way for it not to work, giving errors or freezing Paint Shop Pro is another way for it not to work. We need information.
Also do you have both X2 and X3 on your system? Or are you talking about replacing X2 with X3 and installing Topaz ReMask doesn't show up in X3?

Hello moth129,
There are many reasons why you are getting this error message. For starters, you can try resettings your work space by pressing and holding down the SHIFT key then double click on the PaintShop Pro icon, just click on OK when you received the same screen as the one below.

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
Make sure that you have the third patch installed, which has improved plugin support. If you have the patch, your version will be 13.2.1.15.

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
Has this always been the case with X3? Or has it only recently happened for X3? Like, can you trace back to a specific patch when it was working and now it's not?
The problem is odd in that the KPT filters seem more than able to grab the transparency information, though the Goo filter didn't show any of my image....which is odd.
So other than confirming with others, besides myself, that these do indeed just not work in X3 you can attempt to get Tech Support to report this as a possible bug. Also contact the actual plugin providers and tell them that their plugins do not work in Paint Shop Pro X3.

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
i tried it last night after downloading and installing from the web before patch was applied and failed to work. i cant say if it ever worked with X3 due to the fact that i didn't have a reason to use it until now.
i guess i will try to contact tech support to esclate this issue. it is strange that both plug-ins work in X2 just fine.
thanks

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
I'm having the same issue with the same error message. I downloaded X3 Trial earlier this week and tested Remask 3 without any issue. I then received a PaintShop "update" notice, and updated. This update has killed compatibility with ReMask 3 (which ironically is the reason I trying out PaintShop as I have historically used Irfanview for everything).

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
i contacted tech support and got an answer that i need to contact the plug-in manufacture. i am waiting for a response from Tapaz. i will update when i hear something.
Thom
looks like this is a known issue over at the Topaz Labs site. it sounds like corel broke something when they released patch 3 (13.2.1.15)

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
A number of people have posted at the Topaz Forum that they are experiencing this same problem and the one thing everyone, myself included, have in common is that Remask stopped working after applying PSP Patch 3. One of the Topaz Admins posted that they have contacted Corel Support and are waiting for a reply; hopefully soon.
PSPX9 | PSP2020 | PSP2021| PSP2022 | PSP2023 & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX | PSPX2 thru PSP2019 owned but not installed

Re: Background Remover and Topaz ReMask
Did they happen to mention what the problem is with the latest patch? I contacted Corel support about this awhile ago, never got a reply & figured it out on my own to reinstall only up to patch #2. If I leave it at the level of upgrade, all seems to work well. I'm curious what the issue is as Topaz is also looking into this.....
Bob
*EDIT* I assumed that the "email from support" was from Corel. Please advise if that is so....
