Re: Canon HV40 camcorder
It records HDV or DV to tape, and has firewire for transferring the video to your PC, yes VS is capable of capturing and editing DV as well as HDV. For editing HDV you need a good robust computer. What are your system specs? Could you please fill in that information in the User Control Panel>Profile?
Couldn't get much easier with Firewire. It is more time consuming than video recorded to memory cards, DVDs or HDDs. Those can be copy/pasted to your PC's HDD. Firewire is a transfer in real time. The only problem with firewire is finding current computers that have firewire built in or firewire cards. However if your PC does not have a firewire port, you pick up a firewire card and cable for next to nothing.is it a difficult process to transfer video into video studio ? thx,tt

Re: Canon HV40 camcorder
I have a Canon HV20, a predecessor to your camera, and I successfully capture from it with either X2 or X3 using Firewire as described by Ron... However, in truth, I rarely use X2 or X3 for capture since it captures the video as one single, large file. I prefer to have many smaller files, one each per scene. So these days, I use a small freeware program called HDVSplit, which has a split-by-scene feature during capture. I am sorry that I do not have a URL for it, but a simple Google search should find it. And again you have to use Firewire to capture using it.
