How does one change the thumbnail for a video clip? By default, VS Pro X3 seems to use the first frame of the clip. I would like to choose the frame. Is that possible in VS?
Thanks in advance.

When you say 'Thumbnail' - could you be more specific - do you mean the thumbnails in the library, which cannot be changed - or the thumbnails in a DVD menu which can ?

Re: How to change a video clip thumbnail
The menu is the more important. It would be nice to have in the library because it would be faster to find, but my main interest is for the menu.
Of course, I haven't figured out how to make a menu yet! I have all the chapters in sequence in the VS project, moved to the Save tab and clicked Create a Disc. That launches DVD Factory Pro 2010, but none of the video files from the project are loaded. I think I will love this application, once I get through the learning curve.
Thanks for your help!

Hello jeff41954,
It appears that you are on a Storyboard view, all you need is to switch to timeline view. Just Timeline view icon. refer to the screenshot below where you can locate the Timeline View icon.

Re: How to change a video clip thumbnail
Abiel -- I think he is concerned about making a menu in DVD Factory "Pro" 2010, and not with icons in X3... That being said, I don't think you can change the chapter icons in DVD Factory 2010... In fact, I don't think I ever got a menu in that program to show anything but the title icons, and they also seemed to show or start from the first frame.
That being said, he would be much better advised to go to the Do More button and download Movie Factory 7SE which will give him much more control over menu making, including the ability to change where the chapter (and main titles) start in the main menu display.

Re: How to change a video clip thumbnail
Ken,
Thank you very much for the advice.
As you suggested, I downloaded the MovieFactory 7 free trial version (which is supposed to be fully featured) and tried it for the last 2 hours. While it is intuitive and easy to use, the user can only select from a few existing templates that are mostly locked down.
I want to design my own template from scratch. Can I do that with the content that comes with the purchase of the app? (Sorry for posting a MovieFactory question in the Video Studio forum, but I'm desperate.)
This is what I am trying to make:
A Chapter Menu with:
I read Help's "How-to" for making my own template, but it tells me to select from a mostly grayed out "Frames, Backgrounds, Navigation Buttons" pulldown menu. The only thing not grayed out is Navigation Buttons, there are only two sets of those to chose from and they are essentially identical.
I very much appreciate any help you can offer. I have now tried no less than 7 different applications and am still looking.
Thanks again,
Jeff

A Chapter Menu with:
- A static jpeg background
- An mp3 audio clip that plays all the way through and repeats until a button is clicked
- Six thumbnail-buttons, one for each of the six clips on the DVD (thumbnails are static jpegs)
- No text labels or titles at all
- The background is a video clip that would normally be the "first run" clip
- >>>>>(The clip should be audible, not muted)
- There are only two buttons, "Play All", and "Chapters"

Re: How to change a video clip thumbnail
The silly thing is that until quite recently all that you want to do jeff was so easily achievable - in versions of Videostudio upto and including X2 you could do what you want to do inside VideoStudio - and if you wanted to make a brand new menu template we used Photo Impact - but Corel in their wisdom have changed all that.
It will be a long time before I part with my versions of VideoStudio X2 or PhotoImpact 12.
have a look in the Tutorials section here :- http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewforum.php?f=75 for a view of tutorials for previous versions.

Re: How to change a video clip thumbnail
Hi Jeff
Complete your project using X3 by creating a Mpeg2 file (DVD file)
DVD Movie Factory 7SE is provided with X3 as a free download.
Use this program to Burn Author your Mpeg 2 video file
Using Movie Factory….
1 / From the first window choose the DVD option---Next
2 / Add video file –adding your Mpeg2— each file added shows as a thumbnail in the timeline, the thumbnail will display the first frame.
If you add 6 individual videos then these will display in the title menu (Main Menu)
You may not need a chapter menu…………..
3 / Play each thumbnail----Pause—Right click thumbnail and select Change Thumbnail. The thumbnail display will change.
Do this for each thumbnail.
4 / If you have a single video file you may need chapters-----Select Add/Edit Chapters—play the video – add chapter-- or select the frame for chapter points. Select Ok
5 / Next---Gallery
6 / Below the preview screen is the option (currently displayed menu) to work with your Main title menu or Chapter Menu
7 / Choose Thumbnail Menu from the Gallery—select a template
8 / Choose the Edit Tab
9 / Select your background music
10 / Disable Motion Menu otherwise your music will stop at this duration, max 30 sec
11 / Add a background—if video you may not need audio as above.
12 / Customise the remaining options.
13 / Choose the (currently displayed menu) to select Chapter menu for editing.
Note:-
First to play video are separate from the menu structure, they play as soon as the disc is loaded, then goes to the title menu.
