Hi, I have downloaded all the updates from Corel (SP1 etc) and restarted but same issue:
Have a GoPro camera which I used in a 4:3 mode which was not HD. Loaded via SD card on to PC and edited no problems - created an output file of 10 mins and all fine.
Tried a 1080p HD recording - plays fine in a Divx player. Had to rename files to MOV to load into VS 3. Within 2-3 mins of editing SW crashes - it is completely unusable + the playback is very jerky. I'm using a pretty high spec PC Dell XPS 430 with 6gb RAM running Vista64bit. Tried all updates but no change - any other suggestions. I really like the SW but must be able to edit HD movies or I need to buy something else.
Thanks for any suggestions
Adam
Another VS crashing issue with HD MP4 files

Re: Another VS crashing issue with HD MP4 files
You may have to convert it to a different format with 3rd-party software. It's not that Video Studio can't edit any HD MPEG-4 files, but there are many variations of every format, and the more-compressed formats sometimes cause trouble. (When I need to convert a "problem file", I usually use SUPER*.)
What final format do you want/need? For example, if you are making a DVD, you can convert to DVD-compatible MPEG-2 (standard definition) before editing. Or if you want to keep the original format, you can convert it to HD MPEG-2 (with the same resolution & framerate, but with a higher bitrate, since MPEG-2 is not as efficient as MPEG-4) and then render you project as HD MPEG-4 . However, you loose some quality every time you convert, and you might notice quality loss if you convert to MPEG-2 for editing and then convert back to MPEG-4... And, the process is time consuming...
Or, you may want to find different editing software that works directly with the files from your camera.
* If you download SUPER, follow the (confusing) links and don't get fooled by the AVS advertisements on SUPER's website.
