My dilemma
I am using now VideoStudio Pro X3 with Windows XP pro and is working OK. If I change to Windows 7 64bit, will I notice any improvements is operation and rendering? My CPU now is Intel Core Quad 2.4GHz.
Should I stay as it is? I know ,I know if it works do not fix it...Any experiences would be welcome.

Hi Stellios
As you say I think you have answered your own question.
My thoughts…..
As far as I know, installing a different operating system is not going to speed up renders.
I think the main criteria for speed is your CPU and as you are keeping the hardware as is, there is not gonna be much change.
In the past I had used XP, then my son rebuilt a new pc with Vista 64bit.
Didn’t get on well with it at all.
So I have been back and forth comparing Vista to XP, this obviously involved re-installing the operating systems (duel boot seemed to complicated)
After a few attempts (took a few years) I am now back with my trusted XP.
The main issue being compatibility of my older software/hardware, and that was just not acceptable.
Better the devil you know…………..

Re: My dilemma
Thanks Trevor for responding. I thought so myself ,that it wouldn't make such a difference, I just wanted to hear from others if they have done this change. Isn't though Windows 7 supposed to be a more reliable than the Vista version?

Re: My dilemma
I've had them all: XP, Vista, and now Win7. Win7 is definitely the best of them all. However, there are some programs that do not work and will require updating them, or getting Win 7 professional with the free Virtual pc that runs XP. This last route is what I have done. For example Corel PhotoPaint and Corel Draw old version I have does not work with Win 7, but works with the virtual pc running xp. This was not hard to do; I think Microsoft has done a good job with the virtual pc... Al

Did you,or are you using the WIN 7 64 bit?
Is VideoStudio pro X3 running better, faster, on a win 7 64 bit compared to win 7 32 bit.

Re: My dilemma
I have 64 bit, the same as when i had Vista. On the same fast pc, performance does not feel any different. Win 7 comes up faster and tends to feel faster because the GUI seems more streamlined... Al

Re: My dilemma
Hi stelch,
If you have VideoStudio Pro x3 and plan to upgrade to a Windows 7 (64 bit), then you can definitely use VS X3. I'm using a Windows 7 (64 bit)/Intel Core i5 and the program works great. No complains on the performance.

Re: My dilemma
At the moment I have 4GB memory. If I upgrade to win 7 64bit I am going to increase the Ram to 8GB. Will this change improve the performance of VS proX3? In other words the VSproX3 is designed to run faster with more Ram?
From the Corel site I saw this entry:
VideoStudio Pro X2, however, can only use 2Gb of RAM no matter which Operating System you use.
Does this apply to X3 as well?

Re: My dilemma
Additional memory helps a lot. The main reason is all that's going on in the background. Take a look at how many programs are running in your machine. Even though VS does not use more than 2GB, Win7 will share all the memory with all programs. The more memory the less contention there is... Al

Re: My dilemma
Stelch: FWIW, my understanding is that this time round at least, Microsoft has deadened the pain. The three time version I bought of Windows 7 comes with two discs -- one allows installation of the 32 bit version, and the other ... guess what?? Yep, the 64 bit version... in the same wrapper and all for the one price... So no need to get your knickers in a knot. If you get nothing out of the 64 bit version, you can always reformat and load the 32 bit version...

Re: My dilemma
Ken the one I bought for 125 Euros is the Win 7 pro 64 bit so I am not sure that you can also install the 32 bit as well. It's in one DVD. Lets hope that all will go well.
