Re: direct draw surface
In what way does it not work? Does it give you an error? Does the plugin load up at all? Does it load and then stop responding?
Exact details, especially where plugins are concerned, are always best with these sorts of things. Tell us as much as you can, even word for word any errors that you get and what you're doing, and what's happening, when the error occurs. The more information the better.
One option you might try, since this plugin was made for Photoshop and not for Paint Shop Pro, is to download two important DLLs. Plugin.dll and msvcrt10.dll and place them in your C:\Windows\system32 folder. The website I'm linking you to says the System folder but for later versions of Windows (like Windows 7) you need to place it in System32.

Can't guarantee it'll work but it's something to try.

Re: direct draw surface
thanks for the info....other users have flagged this problem.....psp x2 and the dds plugin from nvidia worked fine on 32 w7...
does not install on w764...or rather it does but doesnt appear at all in save as options in psp...
looking at and comparing...w732 with w764...they appear to be identical...plugin folder in psp contains nvidia dl..all in x86..
no error from psp, but one flagged by installer......hmmmm....will test your advice, hmmmm you may be onto something...cheers .jim

Re: direct draw surface
Well with this new information my suggestion may not work, with what you've told me it seems to be something else entirely.
It might have to do with where the plugin information is installed. I don't have any experience with this plugin at all and I only have a version 32 of Win 7. So there is no way for me to test it directly. But if it's not showing up in the Save As as one of the conversion types and if it doesn't appear in the Effects menu under plugins then Paint Shop Pro is not finding the plugin at all.
If my first suggestion doesn't work try one of these three options.
1) Make sure Paint Shop Pro is looking in the right direction. In the File menu under preferences you'll see an option for File Locations. Select Plugins and make sure that it's looking at the folder where you installed the DDS plugin.
2)Double check the installation directory (make sure it's the one that Paint Shop Pro looks at for its plugins). If you would rather not add a new folder then make sure that you've got your install directory properly mapped out. In the File Locations dialog you'll see exactly where Paint Shop Pro is looking for plugins.
3)This last one matches up with the first suggestions. Set the install to a special directory on your computer.
For example I had it install to my plugins folder in my MyPSPFiles folder.
c:\users\Name\Documents\My PSP Files\Plugins
This folder doesn't exist normally but I use it for easy backup of my different plugins when I do a factory install. Go into Paint Shop Pro and under File->Preferences->File locations add this new folder to the list of folders that Paint Shop Pro looks at for plugin information.
If PSP can find it at all these should help.
