VS X3 .vsp files won't open in VS X2 ??
I have both VS X2 and VS X3. I've been working on a project in VS X2 for the last month. I just recently installed VS X3. I opened up the file in VS X3 for the first time, saved the project. Now the file won't open up in VS X2. I tried with another short project file that i originated in VS X2, opened it up in VS X3, did nothing to the file, saved it in VS X3, and now this file wont open in VS X2 anymore either. It seems that when I save a file in VS X3, whether i edit the file or not, the file will no longer open in VS X2. All files are the standard .vsp files. Help please!!
Cheers,
Bryan P.

Project files are not backwards-compatible in VS. As you have discovered, they are forward compatible only.
However, when you have the project open in X3, if you go to File > Save As, a dialogue box appears where you would give the project a new name. Then in the box immediately below the file name, you will see beside it "Save As Type", and to the right it will show by Default "Corel Video Studio 13 Project File". And to the right of that is a downward pointing arrow which, if you click on it, will allow you to save the project file in either VS 12/X2 or VS 11 format.

Ken beat me to it!!!
That is correct. Like most software, VS is not backward compatible. In other words, a newer version of VS will open a project made in an older version, but not the other way around. You opened an X2 project in X3, then saved it as an X3 project. It is now recognized as an X3 project and will no longer open in X2.
But, over the last few versions of VS they have provided an alternative. If you go to File>Save As, in the Save As Type drop down you can choose to save your project as 2 older versions. In X3 this would be as an X2 or v11 project file. Saving it as such would allow you to open the project in that older version of VS. But keep in mind, any effects that are native only to X3 (such as the second title track) would not work if saved as an earlier version.

Sorry, was working from memory, which apparently doesn't work too well.
