Video Studio 12.0.98.1 Pro problem.
Hi, All,
Because of ill health I haven't used my VS 12.0.98.1 Pro for several months. I did attempt to open it yesterday and got the attached error messages. Clicking on the VStudio.exe file in Program Files/Corel/Corel Video Studio 12 gives me the same result. How can I correct this? I am hesitant about reinstalling VS as I may lose my settings

Re: Video Studio 12.0.98.1 Pro problem.
Hope you're doing much better now Ted,
Looking at your top screenshot, it appears that you have possibly a shortcut in your My Documents folder? If so try starting VS from the Start Menu (Start>All Programs>Corel VideoStudio 12>Corel VideoStudio 12. It could be that your short cut in your My Documents folder has been corrupted.
What files are you worried about losing? Do you have custom Libraries? If so you can back those up outside of VS. They are *.dat files and are found in WinXP at:
C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name HereApplication Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio\12.0
The Library Files:
Once you get VS back up and running like it should AND you have all your Libraries, even if you have to start over, there is a function in VS to back up all those Libraries. Tools>Library Manager>Export Library. You can use that same tool to Import your Libraries too..

Hi, Ron P,
Thank you for your reply. My health is improving all the time.
I have tried the shortcut in Start Menu and also clicked on the VStudio.exe file in Program Files/Corel/Corel Video Studio 12 without success.
I tried to reinstall over the top but get the attached message. Do I have to uninstall VS first?

Try going to the Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs, and see if there is a Repair option. If so try that. If not uninstall it and then reinstall the program. VS does not allow for Over-installing.

Hi, Ron P.
Add/Remove Programs didn't uninstall VS completely and I had to complete the job with Revo Uninstaller. No luck with the install and I'm still getting the same Permission messages.

Hi there, Trevor,
Thank you for your reply. I downloaded, but was unable to install msiccu2. See the attachment. However, all the other deletions suggested by the article had already been done, so Revo Uninstaller must have done a good job. I have followed all the suggestions I could find on Google for setting Permissions, but unfortunately many of them don't apply to XP Home. Anyway, nothing has worked, so far and I still can't install VS 12. It's strange, because it installed perfectly 12 months ago. No problem with Permissions, then.

I don't know if this may help, but I can't help but notice all the stuff you have running, showing in the lower right. Try closing as many of them as you can. Then try installing. It's always been a recommendation of many software programs, to close all running applications.

I closed all those apps Ron P., but no luck. Good suggestion, though. Thanks.

Hi Ted
Daft question I know, but are you logged into PC as “administrator”?
View your “User Accounts” from the control panel.
Also----how are you trying to install Video Studio X2
1 / From the disc, or download file
OR
2 / From the installation files in C:\Program Files\Corel\VS-Installation Files
Just to add
Try re-naming the folder VS-Installation Files to say VS-Installation Files Copy
Then running the install from disc/download file will re-create the folder as new.

Re: Video Studio 12.0.98.1 Pro problem.
Hi, Trevor,
Yes, I am logged in as Administrator and have started the install from my download file and from the VS-Installation files. After trying from the Installation files I just delete the folder and try again from the download file which re-creates all the Installation files again. I upgraded my Windows Installer today, but that didn't help.

UPDATE:
I did a Registry Search for VideoStudio entries with RegSeeker last night and it found 432 of them which I deleted.
With the the help of an Aussie friend I modified the Registry and set all Permissions to Full Control for Anyone.
I've just completed a Bootscan with Avast and it found no infections. What is my next move?

Hi, Black Lab,
Yes, I'm trying very hard to install VS, but have had no luck, so far. I've installed other programmes without any problems, it's only VS that is causing so much concern. Last night I installed Visual C++. Any other suggestions?

So you are saying you still cannot install even with all admin permissions? You did not make that clear.
