Convert DVD NTSC to PAL

Post by Vasan »

Hi

I have VS9 and created a DVD in NTSC with dolby as audio format.
I need to send a copy to my friend (who lives in India) in PAL system. I made a videofile from the captured mpg file and changed the project setting to PAL. The project setting now show it as PAL.

When I tried in share and dowloaded the video, the property show as NTSC. Before I burn I would like to know whether I can change the setting to PAL. I wanted to avoid seeing an error message.

I also have the latest NERO - Ultra edition. I do not know whether I can configure the setting to burn in PAL system.

I would like to know whether there is a easy way to convert NTSC to PAL.

Need help from FORUM MEMBERS !

regards

If you don't get a reply at this time, you might try doing a Search because I've regularly seen posts on the PAL-NTSC topic over time.

If you have the video file in NTSC then just re-render it to PAL. Drag the file on to the timeline and go straight to "share." Create a new video file with PAL attributes and then use that to burn a DVD.

Can be done easily. You just have to be a bit careful with VS - it will automatically revert to default settings if you don't watch it.
Load the video file into the timeline or burning module. Go to Share - create disc. Select the Settings and Options icon - far lower left of burning screen, and choose Preferences. Here you specify the TV system as PAL/SECAM. Now hit the Project Settings icon - just beside it, the cogwheel - choose change mpeg settings - customise - and select the parameters for your video.
If you are looking at numbers like 25 frames/sec and frame size 720 X 526, you are on the right track. VS will now quite happily burn you a PAL DVD.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your response. I did make a video file in PAL. When I loaded the mpg file in share module, the file size was larger. I then changed the settings to 4000kbps and chose mpeg audio. When I load mpg file I should not be getting a message "will take time render..." . Still I proceeded. After an hour I get a error message " not enough space in the disk...".

Now I will start again. Before that, I wanted to know whether I can choose Dolby Audio for PAL system ?

Thanks again for your help !!!

You can choose Dolby audio in PAL - I use it all the time.

If you have changed the bitrate and audio parameters, the file will need to be re-rendered. That takes time......

For a bitrate of 4000, I would expect that you should get nearly 2 hours' video on a disc. How long is your project?

Hi rwindeyer

Thanks a lot for your help. I successfully burnt the PAL DVD using your guidelines. I retained Dolby audio. My project size is 1 hr 55 min. The file size for PAL increased to 7.5GB (5.45GB for NTSC).

While processing there was a message "changing may result in loss in video.... " (I dont remember the exact message). I clicked OK and continued with process. I will know the outcome when my friend paly in his PAL DVD player.

Alot of PAL DVD Players can play NTSC DVD's (so I am told). So maybe send along a copy of the NTSC DVD with your PAL version. If it works, in the future you can just send your firned the NTSC DVD's :)

Good to hear that it worked. I have converted PAL to NTSC for friends - a slight loss of sharpness and some visual imperfections in some scenes; nothing really to worry about.
George W is correct - many PAL players can play NTSC DVDs as well; unfortunately the reverse doesn't apply.
As a footnote - your computer should play almost anything. If it plays OK in your computer's DVD player, and the information shows a PAL DVD, you have succeeded.
