PSP X3: After reinstall KPT filters won't install

Post by df »

I did a reinstall of PSP X3 as described in the How to uninstall X3 thread. It reinstalled without a hitch from the disk. My only problem is that the KPT filters don't want to reinstall. It tries then comes up with a failure notice that it's already installed (which it isn't) and says that I need to uninstall KPT from within Windows via Control Panel > Programs (Add/Remove). I did that but KPT still won't install stating the same error. It's probably a registry error.

Any help is appreciated.
Regards, Dan

Well...you could just go through and delete all registry keys related to KPT. It's easy enough to backup the registry so that shouldn't be a worry.

I know that in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Corel\PaintShopPro\13 there is a value called KPTInstalled but I really don't see how that would still exist and I don't think it would get in the way of installing even if it did still exist. But the number of KPT values is minimal and they all seem related to the actual KPT filters so I doubt you'd delete anything valuable.

I've scrubbed the registry of any hint of KPT and it still won't install. 20-30 keys in all, they're all over the place. It seems pretty silly that an image editing plugin would need to have to install to the main registry of the computer.

On December 4th I contacted Corel Tech support on this issue of no KPT filters after reinstall via their online contact info. They replied in part with:
Please click on the link below to download the KPT Plug ins:
[link]

Kindly follow the instructions below on how to install KPT Plug in Filters:

1. Install PaintShop Photo Pro X3 and install KPT filter from Do More tab. (Please note you have to close PaintShop Photo Pro X3 before you continually to install KPT filter) Do More can be found under Help, Corel Guide . If the option Do More does not exist, you may have already downloaded the filters, continue with step 2.

You can also check under Help, Check for Updates to ensure all updates have been downloaded and installed.

2. Re-launch PaintShop Photo Pro X3 and go to File > Preferences > File Locations and select Plug-in in the left column.

3. Press Add button (on right side) and select KPT plug-in folder from C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Photo Pro\X3\PSPClassic\Languages\EN*\PlunIns\KPT. (The language folder is matched with your OS language.)

4. Once completed, you will be able to open a picture and find KPT Collection from Effects > Plugins
The problem is that I don't have the PlunIns (or even plugins) in the C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Photo Pro\X3\PSPClassic\Languages\EN folder. I told Corel support this and have waited over a week for them to respond but it's been silence. Really not liking the whole ignore you thing.

Did you re-download the KPT plugins and they're not showing up in your plugin folder or do you need a download link for the plugins? If you just need the link, try this one.

Yeah, I do have that. That's the link that they gave me I just omitted it from my post.

I've even gone so far as to create a Plunins/KPT and even a Plugins/KPT folders. Maybe I'll have to uninstall then reinstall yet one more time skipping the third patch. Not something I'm thrilled about doing really.

You got my curiosity going, so I went looking for my KPT plugins - I can't find them anywhere but I have them and they work. I don't even have the folder path that Corel referenced in your post above. I checked my C drive Program Files (x86) Corel folder and also the plugins folder I created for all my other plugins - they are no where to be found. I did a search on my computer for KPT and nothing surfaces. Very strange.

Hi

I too was having problems installing FPT filters (been struggling for a week). After reading the messages above I downloaded to my Desktop the file at:

http://www.corel.com/akdlm/6763/downloa ... KPT_01.exe

Ran it, opened PSP Pro X3 and the KPT plugins are now avaialable at Effects>Plugins>KPT Collection
under the ....Languages/en folder there is now a sub folder "Plugins" which contains another folder "KPT"

Thanks for the help you've all given me

BUT - it shouldn't be like this! Downloads and plug ins should be simple to implement

Found them. The first time I looked, I overlooked the EN folder.
