Voice Over Problem
I have been unsuccessful in adding voice over to a project that I have created. Have tried using both the built-in microphone on my laptop and a plug-in one. When I activate voice-over the adjustment for volume does not function and nothing is recorded when I try. I am new to the whole program, so I may just not be activating some setting.

Re: Voice Over Problem
The last time I tried the inbuilt audio recording functions of VS must have been with VS10. And they worked then. But whichever version it might have been, I realised that even with the latest, the functions are so limited as to be worthless. So since that time (and even before!) I have used third party software -- usually the audio editor which comes with Nero. But I have also discovered the marvellous freeware program Audacity which many others on this Board have been recommending for years: http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacit ... e/download
So try using that, and saving your voiceovers as standard .wav files. Then simply insert those into the audio timeline of VS. You will have much more control and more ways to filter and otherwise tweak your voiceovers than VS has ever been able to offer...

...and you can record in Audacity while watching the video with something else.
which opens up a workflow issue.
If you are done with all the editing then create a video file without any music tracks, just the natural sound. (if all your original footage is of a the same format then create the video file using the "same as project settings" (which should be the same as your video format))
Record your voice over in Audacity while watching the video you just created on whatever video player you prefer, even VS will suffice. (In audacity you will need to select "line In" when using the external microphone rather than "as you hear" otherwise you will also record the audio form the playing video file)
When you are happy with your voice over you can then import the wave file on VS the timeline with your finished video you watched as a visual guide.
You can make any minor adjustments by editing the VO track...adjusting volumes if yo need to.
You can also now add the music trade making fade in & out adjustments to compliment your voice over track.

Hi rrodgers29,
If you are still not familiar on how to add voice or music to your project using VideoStudio, then you can follow the steps from the VideStudio Online help from this link or copy and paste this URL: http://bit.ly/ajnsBf.
Hope that helps.

Re: Voice Over Problem
Wow! I'm overwhelmed with the quick responses (my first time using this). I did follow the instructions on the http://bit.ly/ajnsBf help site, but without success. So, I'll try these other suggestions. Thanks!

Re: Voice Over Problem
What I've also done in a pinch is to record myself speaking into my camcorder's mic. I then capture that as a "video" clip. You could then leave it as such, or split the audio to make it an audio clip. It actually sounded better than I thought it might.
