Installation Failure

Post by 2flyrdie »

I had VideoStudio Pro X3 (box version) installed previously, had to change out some computer parts (motherboard, harddrive, etc) and now when trying to reinstall Corel, we enter Serial Number, select country and file destination and then it gets about half way through the install and we get a message in the Corel Program (not a windows error box) saying:

"Instillation Wizard not completed: Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again. Click Finish to exit the wizard.
This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

Does anyone know why we would have this error or have another way around this problem?

Thanks

If you changed the motherboard AND the hard drive then in essence you have built a new computer not simply upgraded one!
There are lots of possible causes for your problem not least of which is a faulty installation of Windows.
When you changed the hard drive did you re-install everything from scratch or did you use a utility program to copy the old hard drive over to the new one?
Have you obtained all of the necessary drivers for the new motherboard?

If everything else seems to be working correctly on your computer it might be that your VideoStudio X3 Installation disc may be either faulty or have some dirt or fingermarks on the surface of the disc. Try creating a folder on your hard drive, copy the entire disc to that folder and then install VideoStudio from that hard drive folder.

Hello 2flyrdie,

I'm Abiel from Corel Support. If you are getting the error "Instillation Wizard not completed: Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again. Click Finish to exit the wizard. This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." you may need to manually clean or remove the old installed VideoStudio then install a new copy. You can follow the steps from this link to manually remove the old copy of videostudio. If the problem persists, then you may need to contact our Customer Support using the number posted from our Support Page.

Hope that helps.

Thank you all for your quick advice.

I am trying to put a new install onto a New Hard Drive that only has windows on it. So starting from scratch.

Have you obtained all of the necessary drivers for the new motherboard?- All but the sound, as I have a dedicated sound card installed and working.
I created a folder on my hard drive, copied the entire disc to that folder and then install VideoStudio from that hard drive folder. But was stopped early in the copy process with "error message- cant copy share.msi" its in the CDS folder. So that was a NOGO.

I followed Abiels steps to remove my old copy, but it was not much use as there were not corel files installed on my new drive and the old one that used to be the C: drive has been formatted.

I would like to call support but cant see paying $15 for something that should be free. Thank goodness for you folks.

I have installed the trial version from the website with success. Is there a way to use my product serial number to activate the trial version into a full paied version?

Hello 2flyrdie,

The serial number for the box version will not activate the trial version. However, you are still entitle for a free support, specially if this is the first time that you are calling the Corel Customer Service. You can find the number from this link: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 4151700373

Called Corel Instillation support today. It was Free and they linked into my computer to do the work for me with some internet site, that was nice. They were a little annoying in that I had to sit and watch them do all the stuff I had already tried, just to prove to themselves that it did not work, but that's their job. Then they download a zip file from the web, which was really just the contents of the "CD" on to my computer.
It literally took 6 hours to download 2 GB. They said their server was acting up.
But when all said and done. I unzipped the file, ran the setup and wa la. It installed.

Turns out my instillation CD just went bad. The tip off was when I could not copy the CDs contents on to my desktop.

Thanks everyone for your help.
