AVCHD to MOV conversion
I need to convert AVCHD footage to 1280x720 MOV (qt) files. VSX2 via create a video file, and VSX3 can do this via video file creation and batch conversion as well. The problemis that I can't find any setting to get the bitrate of the MOV files under contol. VSX2 generates files with very high bitrates, VSX3 with low bitrate, and when I select "check data rate" in the advanced options settings for the MOV file, I get a prompt at every new file start (and I have many files) like " the bitrate exeeds the settings...do you want to continiue" . Any help would be appreciated.

Erdna,
Erightsoft Super can convert AVCHD to MOV and also has batch conversion feature. You can find it in the General Information & Downloads section of this forum.

Re: AVCHD to MOV conversion
Have you tried creating a template with the bitrate you are after?

Hello erdna,
I'm from Corel Support. Can you tell me what do you mean by "get the bitrate of the MOV files under contol"?

Re: AVCHD to MOV conversion
To keep it practical: when I want to convert an AVCHD file to a MOV file, I want to be able to set the video data rate (~=bitrate) to e.g. 5000Kb/s, just like what I can do with other formats. How can I get a converted MOV file which shows me a bitrate of ~ 5000Kb/s in MedioInfo.

Re: AVCHD to MOV conversion
rwernyel: the Erightsoft Super doesn't seem to accept AVCHD data.
Ken, maybe a dumb question, but how do I make a profile? By just saving my setting as a .VSP file?

Re: AVCHD to MOV conversion
Hi
Mov is just the container holding the video date which is compressed to various types.
Many cameras use Motion Jpeg (Mjpeg)
My Panasonic TZ5 uses Photo Jpeg good quality at 1280 x 720.
I see 21 different compression options, don’t understand most of them, but phone and camera manufacturers may use them?
Each type will produce different file sizes reflecting the quality.
Avi is a container in the same way as Mov, requires you to select the compression type.
Mpeg 2 Pal has only one option that’s Pal DVD compression, yes the bit rate will adjust quality, with Mov I think you will have to select a different compressor rather than a different bit rate.
The question is what you are using the mov files for.

Erdna,
Sorry to hear Super does not work for you. Another free option is Handbrake. If you're using the AVCHD files from your Panasonic TM700, do a google search of "Panasonic TM700 and Handbrake"; you will find answers from other forums about that workflow. Hope this helps.

Re: AVCHD to MOV conversion
Trevor, I want the MOV conversion for my grandson, who is "MAC contaminated", and can't afford to buy FCP, so has to stick on iMovie8.

Re: AVCHD to MOV conversion
Hi erdna
A bit of googling found some info on the iMovie 08
Seems like it supports a variety of camcorders and I assume video formats.
So I don’t think you will be limited to Mov types.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1014#4
But if you need Mov then I would use the Mpeg4 compression, although there are many to choose from and test to see which is suitable.
Customising the frame size and frame rate to match your source files may be the way to go.
Although converting to the format that the iMovie is to create is probably the best option. Maybe ask for a sample from your grandson to copy the properties.
