Found this...

It's the same exact thing without the camera. Just a minidv player with 1394 port.

Ken: Tried 2 different PC's, different ports. Same results. It's looking like the port.

OK this might be a stupid question....

Will the MiniDV video tape play in s sSony MiniDV camera?

I may have found one of these with a bad lens and a good player.

Yes the camcorder looks OK - the handbook says it can take standard MiniDv cassettes - their all the same mechanically I am sure it will work.

I think I found a $75 solution. 1394, USB and smart card. It was rated as a fairly good camera in it's day (2007). Video resolution is 720 x 480, same as the Panasonic. Should work pretty well as a transfer device. The camera even still works as a camera, if I wanted/ needed to use it that way.

Much cheaper than the $150-$800 I was quoted to fix the camera.

Thanks for your help everyone. I really appreciate it.

HI
I have a over ten year old Canon DV camera, the only way I can get it to work with PRO X2, is to start the soft ware, clic on "1 CAPTURE", then turn on the camera.
Works every time.

Hope this helps, BUG EYED.
