I'm trying to get some video files already encoded using Xvid video format (& mp3 audio format) in a avi container onto a DVD... I've tried both VideoStudio 9 (which I just got) & MovieFactory 4 telling it to just burn them in MPEG 2 onto a DVD (& both seem to have no trouble recognizing my DVD drive). I even tried to just convert the files using VideoStudio into another format, hoping that might help but that didn't work either...
What happens (specifically) is before it gets to doing much of anything (still at 0%) windows says that it's performed an illegal operation and must be closed... Always... I have yet to get it past that stage. I even shut off all running programs last time & unplugged my network cable to give my system less to think about... That didn't change anything...
I guess I should post my specs, so:
Athlon XP 3200+
Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 motherboard
2x256 MB Kingston HyperX DDR500 memory (Dual chanel with matching sticks)
ATI AIW 9800 Pro video card
TTGI 520 Watt PSU
Maxtor 16 GB PATA100 HDD (System Volume)
Maxtor 2x40 GB PATA133 HDD's in RAID 0 (Program/App Volume)
Maxtor 300 GB DiamondMax 10 SATA150 HDD (Video Storage Volume)
Philips 16x DVD+/-R/W Duall layer DVD burner
TDK 24x CD-RW drive
All to run Windows XP Pro with SP2...
If you can't guess I original built this machine just to do video editing specifically (though most of the original hardware is almost 2 years old now). I also have no problem burning DVD's with any other program I've used... I should also mention I've used Pinnacle Studio (ATI v7 Edition), but it doesn't have an integrated DVD burner (8 & 9 do, not 7), so I can convert the files their, but even doing that none of my Ulead tools get past 0%...
Any help would be appreciated...
A (fairly) large problem...

Shadow99,
even though XVid is basically an avi encoded with the XVid codec, I do not believe VS can input, output or convert. Take a look at AutoGK (or similar prog) . It's a freeware convertor that can convert XVid to avi. Then just import the avi file(s) into VS for editing and burning. Here's a link to it http://www.autogk.me.uk/
IMPORTANT*: Be forwarned, that the AutoGK authors are now bundling this great program with spyware. Just check out the user comments at VideoHelp before installing*
