Help creating custom movie template

Post by ewlung »

Hi,

I am struggeling to make a custom movie template for sharing to a video file. Hope you can help me here.
I use the menu Setting, Make Movie Template Manager.

What I want to make is:
- Compression: H.264
- Resolution: 800 x 480
- Audio: AAC Stereo
- Video bitrate: 1500
- Container: MPEG-4

But it seems I cannot use this X3 software for that. Especially the resolution, why the "custom" resolution is greyed out (disabled)?

The reason for the above movie template is for playing on Android mobile phone.

Anyone can help?

Thanks.
Trevor Andrew

Hi

Are you sure the size 800 x 480 is correct.
The 800 seems a strange size?????????????

Do you have a sample video made with the phone?

Taking Trevor's last question one step further, if in fact you *do* have a sample video with those properties, then you should be able to make a template based on it. In the box which appears when you select Make Movie Template Manager, there is an Add button. Click that. In the new dialogue box which appears, give the new template an obvious name you will remember in the lower window. In the upper window (File Path), click on the button to the right ('...') and navigate to where your sample video file is. Select it, then click OO, and Close to clear the dialogue boxes from screen. Next time you choose Share > Create Video File, your new template should appear at the bottom of the drop down menu, and it should have the properties you are after.

Note that you cannot edit that new template. If you attempt to do so, it will revert to the default DVD properties, and you will have to make a new one using the same procedure.

Well, 800 x 480 is the screen resolution of all high end Android mobile phone. Anyway, here what I tried:

- Start X3
- Click Settings -> Make Movie Template Manager
- Click New
- Set File format to MPEG-4 Files (*.mp4)
- Set Template name to "Android"
- Click the General Tab

There, the User-defined Frame size is disabled.

Right, I could choose the nearest one, for example 720x480.

But why that User-defined Frame size is disabled? I don't recall I could enable this.

Thanks.

Hi

The video used on the Android is more likely to be 640 x 480, although it may do several sizes.
The screen size does not necessary mean the video used is the same size.

The video industry has standards for frame size rates and so on.
The default settings will use standard sizes and will play on most if not all players.
Changing the frame sizes outside the standards will result in unconventional sizes and playback problems.

Some sizes are customisable when creating your templates others you cannot change.
I do not know why this should be, other than you are keeping to standard sizes, just the way things are.

If you have access to the phone, then record a movie import to the pc and insert to video studio.
Right click the clip and select properties, what are they?

Hi Ken,

Your method has been tried many times, and it does not give what I want. Your explanation is just the way to create a movie template, which I already knew.

Hi Trevor,

High end Android can record 800 x 480 video, H.264. Here I uploaded one example:

http://www.mediafire.com/?u577jo4cjo0verh

I understood your explanation about standard frame size (resolution / dimension) of a video file.

But I was thinking that X3 can be used to "re-encode" a video file wich I can customize the video output properties:
- Video compression (codec)
- Audio codec
- Sampling rate
- Resolution / frame size

Too bad, looking into this, I don't think I can do that using X3.

Hi

The file is a 3GP type, I haven’t used this type

Video Studio can create/render to 3GP, but only using H263 not H264
It is limited to frame size and again the custom option is not available.
View the File Formats when using the “make movie templates manager”.

Share Create Video File – Custom also shows 3GP
