MovieFactory Pro 7 Crashes on "Next"

Post by Tasana Studios »

SUBJECT/Nature of the problem: I just purchased MovieFactory Pro 7. Got it installed and ran the updates. I opened it prior to installing the updates. Restarted and ran the program. It ran fine. Installed and updated VideoStudio X3. It too is FULLY updated as is MFP7. Installed WordPerfect X2 and ran updates. Opened MFP7 and it now crashes. Removed WPX2. I had this issue from yesterday when I bought MFP7. I could not get it fixed so I Wiped the HDD and reinstalled XP Home SP3 and installed ALL updates. I will not describe the crash this is NO error message that takes place.
1) I open DVD MFP7 Launcher
2) Click to open DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro the main menu opens.
3) Either new project or existing project it does not matter the end result is the same. So we will do existing project.
4) Click Next loads the project
5) At the Select Source & Import I have loaded an AT&T ad that I produced in MPG format.
6) Click Next (To go into the DVD menu options) CRASH, BAM, SPLAT, AH THE HORROR....
7) I am back at the launcher. No error no thank you come again no nothing.

Here is some more information that may help...

here is the problem,
somehow there is a conflict with VideoStudio X3 AFTER all the updates are installed.

How I figured it out.

When I had to reinstall my OS I decided to check every possible conflict.
I installed XP Home, then Installed SP3 and ran all Windows Updates and installed all my drivers.
I then installed MovieFactory Pro 7, it ran perfect. I then installed all the updates and patches for MovieFactory Pro 7, still ran fine.I then installed all my other programs, and AFTER each installed I tried MovieFactory Pro 7, it always ran fine. At last I installed VideoStudio X3. BEFORE I ran those updates I tried MovieFactory Pro 7, ran perfect. I than installed all the addons, packs and updates for VideoStudio X3, MovieFactory Pro 7 no longer runs. In VideoStudio X3 under share>create DVD it has MovieFactory SE showing (MovieFactory SE IS NOT installed and was NOT installed through an update.
It will do no good to start un-installing and re-installing. As I now know it is a conflict with one of the updates with VSX3.
I need this to work and I am really really at the end of my wits with this. This has been a nightmare since I bought this yesterday. I need Corel to figure out the problem and please fix it.
Thanks
Greg

Just spent an hour or so on the phone with Corel.
We found the problem
I posted this to Corel's Facebook.

"ROB is the man. Thanks Marissa for getting him in touch. As it turns out it is the patch dmf7_3in1_patch for MFP7 from Corel that is causing the shut down. I just have to un-install it one more time and re-install it again and NOT install that patch. The path to find the answer was long but the answer is OH how sweet. Thanks to all at Corel who helped on this issue. Props to you and more props for the fast turn around on response."

So for some reason the patch issued by Corel to fix some problems is causing the application to "Shut off" but I just have to install it once more and not install the patch and it is fixed.
WHOO glad it is over.

Actually, the problem causing the shutdown appears to be Smart Proxy. After importing video, Moviefactory scans the video and creates some sort of index or preview file. If it hasn't finished creating that file before you hit next, the program will close. So, if you have the 3-in-1 patch installed, you can either however long is needed for the index files to be created before hitting next, or you can just turn off Smart Proxy in the Advanced tab of Preferences. I haven't noticed any benefit to Smart Proxy, so I just run with it turned off.
