Scene divided
Although I configured 'scene divided' the VS x3 captured only one file. On another computer the scenes were divided.
Anybody an idea?

Re: Scene divided
What format are you capturing? Split by Scene does not work for all formats.

Re: Scene divided
In fact, split-by-scene during capture only works with DV/AVI from a mini DV camera. And it will only work *after* capture with DV and SD mpeg-2, as far as I am aware...

Re: Scene divided
The video-format is DV/AVI captured from a Sony camera. Once I deinstalled VS X3 and installed it new then it runs. But with the next movie the problem came up again.

Re: Scene divided
Many thanks for your hints regarding cable and firewire.
I cannot imagine that these hardware is the reason for my problem due to the fact, that I captured the movie with the same equipment and it worked fine. With my second movie I had the same problem: Capturing, cutting and burning was fine but after generating the video-file for the transfer to my camera the same problem occured. It seems to me to be a buffering problem.

Re: Scene divided
Dear Brian,
sorry, you are totally right. I will place my remarks on the other problem description.
Here are some news after futrher testings regarding the right problem:
I did a right-mouse-click on the file in the time-line and the promised menue regarding splitting the scenes came up. After activating the splitting the pop-up disappeared but nothing happened. To ensure that there is no time-restriction I tested it again with 3 scenes which I captured testwise from the camera. But again nothin happened.

Hi bebie
Have you updated Direct X
Manually updating Direct X has cured some strange problems with Video Studio.
There is a post at the top of this forum…………
The update is in three parts, download, extract files, install files by running DXSETUP.exe.
I think this is the latest version
DirectX Redist (June 2010)

Re: Scene divided
Dear Trevor,
yesterday I conducted some further tests. I installed VS X3 on a second notebook. Then I captured with another camera another movie to this notebook. It worked! All scenes were divided. Then I captured the video I used the days before with the same camera. It didn't work. The conclusion for me is that the VS X3 software is o.k. but the movies are different, although both movies are mini DV. The only explanation I now have is that the time code on the wrong video is not recorded. What is your opinion? On the Sony camera I havn't seen any configuration parameter to steer this.

Re: Scene divided
I can confirm that Split Scene does NOT work on DV tapes recorded without a timecode. AKA "how I learned the hard way to format tapes before recording!"

Re: Scene divided
Hi
Just to add, to format the tape is a matter of recording from start to end without a break. Just leave the lens cap on.
Many manufactures recommend doing this before using a tape.
Otherwise If you record, rewind to view the recording then continue recording you are liable to interrupt the timecode, which will re-start from zero, totally confusing the capture process.

Re: Scene divided
I think he meant a DV tape which had not already had a timecode established on it by running it through before use with the lens cap on...

Re: Scene divided
That's what I thought. But I have to say, I often record to a fresh, out-of-the-wrapper tape and Split by Scene always works, so I'm not sure of UncleBoo's comment.

Re: Scene divided
It has been literally several years now since I have shot a SD DV video. But that is also my memory. In fact, I only ever did that thing of running a new tape through the camera with the lens cap on a couple of times. But I never had trouble either with split-by-scene, either with VS or WinDV. However, that was probably before VS11/11.5+. So I am wondering if the Corel-introduced IVI Capture Component could have something to do with it....
