ON VS X3 I get only random transitions when I over-lap clips
On timeline, when I over lap ends of 2 video clips, I do not get a crossfade, as in X2, but only "random" transitions. A crossfade is not even listed as a default choice under preferences. Did I miss something??? Thanks... Mike

Crossfade should be listed in the 'FX' sub-folder of the transitions...

When you go to Settings>Preferences>Edit Tab there is no F/X - Crossfade listed in the drop-down menu for Default Transition Effect?

Re: ON VS X3 I get only random transitions when I over-lap c
Hi Trevor. Sorry for delay. I'm afraid I still cannot find any FX Crossfade listed under transition effect options, under the Edit tab of Preferences. I'm looking at VS X3. I counted about 93 choices they give here... but no Crossfade among them. The list of choices I'm seeing begins with Random and then a long list of Mask choices, then peel, push, roll, rotate, slide, stretch, wipe, and so on. But no FX Crossfade. Regards, MikeS

Re: ON VS X3 I get only random transitions when I over-lap c
In that same drop-down menu, are there any transitions at all listed under F for FX? In my own Preferences, 'F/X - Crossfade' is number 33...

No, theres no "FX" listed at all. List begins with Random, then Mask, etc. Last two are "All - Paper Collage, All - Smear". Between Wipe - Zig Zig and

Check the Vfx_plug folder to see what you have listed. I have about 142 files in that folder. Those are the transitions. I believe the one called Fade is for the cross-fade transition. Also if you're not showing the Cross-fade transition in the Transition Library (A/B icon), then I would have to say you have some corruption or faulty install, and would need to re-install the program.

Hi Mike
Can you fill in your profile to include your PC specification, at least we will know what operating system you are using.
Have you manually updated Direct X. There is a post at the top of this forum.
The install is in three parts, Download, Extract files, install by running DXSETUP.exe
From the Direct X site search for DirectX Redist (June 2010) I believe this to be the latest version
Also have you updated the programs by installing the Patches provided by Corel.

Noticed the New Blue Choices.. I hope those are not Trial versions. For some reason New Blue's trials seem to want to stick in VS. They provide an uninstaller for them, but it fails to really remove them. The only remedy I've found is to completely reinstall any and all VS versions you have. They will install to all versions you have on your system.Mike Warren wrote:No, theres no "FX" listed at all. List begins with Random, then Mask, etc. Last two are "All - Paper Collage, All - Smear". I recently discovered that with another "Magix" NLE, New Blue trials will successfully uninstall from it. Just be cautious when running trial versions of their plug-ins.

Re: ON VS X3 I get only random transitions when I over-lap c
Sorry for delay. Yes, I did look in correct place under Preferences for default transition. I wonder if the 5 "New Blue samples" took it place. And Yes, I do have Crossfade and fade to black under the A/B icon in transitions library. I even have Crossfade listed as my favorite, and make heavy use of it. Under Preferences, my list of choices listed for a default transition does not include FX, Fade, Crossfade. It begins with Random and then a very long list of Masks... etc. I also had downloaded patches for X3.
Don know if this is related to issue, but when changing over from X2 to X3 I had to manually install my costly New Blue Essentials 1,2 and 3 on to Pro X3 following the advise of one of your people. They now work fine on X3, only... now whenever I start X3 up I get a tiny window saying "No storage to load BB!!". Only after hitting "OK" 5 times the window disappears. Must go through this each time I start X3. My computer is Pentium 4CPU duel core 3.00 GHz 3.01 GHz, 3.00GB Ram, Windows XP,SP3. Regards, Mike

Re: ON VS X3 I get only random transitions when I over-lap c
Mike,
Please complete the information in the User Control Panel>Profile, for your system. We still don't know if you're running WinXP, Vista or Win7.
Since your Transitions drop-down list in the Preferences is missing several, you must have a faulty installation of VS. I don't know anything about that error you get when starting up VS. I've never seen it. However it would lead me to believe that your installation is corrupted. Things just are not loading up as they should. At this point, I would start from scratch. Completely uninstall VS, all traces of it. If you have customized libraries, back them up to another drive or disc. After you have cleaned your system of VS, then try reinstalling it. Don't just try to re-install over your existing program, or even do a repair install. VS may not over-right some crucial existing files, and if any of them are corrupt, your problem will continue.
Now if/when you do reinstall, if you're running Vista, disable UAC (User Account Control), and run the installer as an administrator. Even if your user profile in Vista does have administrative permissions, right-click on the installer and choose..Run as administrator.
If you have tried reinstalling and are still having this problem of missing the transitions in the Preferences dialog, you may even have a corrupt installation file or disc. You may need to contact Corel to request a replacement. If you obtained the program from some other source, such as a retailer, they may ask about this, and first suggest that you have to return it to them.
