Can I get my money back?
I have had Corel Video Studio VP3 for a couple of months now and it was working ok until tonight when it can't do anything right. It doesn't save projects that I made, it can't open projects that I've been working on and many other problems. I am very disappointed in the program and would like to try something else.

Welcome to the forums,
First this web board is staffed by users that volunteer their time to help others with problems they are experiencing. There are a couple of Corel tech support staff that have recently been participating. However they are not Customer Service reps.
You could post your problems that you're having and we can try to resolve them for you. You could also try to get a refund, however I don't think that you're going to be able to now, for the following reasons;
1. You purchased the program a couple of months ago? IF so then you're beyond the 30-day money back guarantee.
2. They do provide for a 30-day, fully functional trial. You can try out the program before deciding to buy it. If you were having problems during the trial, why would you purchase it?
3. You stated it was working fine until just the other day. That indicates something has changed on your system that is causing a conflict. This is really not that uncommon, and is not program specific.
So if you're "stuck" with the program, can't get a refund, you might as well try to get it working. So post the problems you're having and we will work through them to get it running for you..
BTW we have a sticky at the top of this forum...Please Read this First..., that provides an outline of what information we will need to provide the best possible help.

As I stated it is indicative of a change to your system, which could be an update that was ran. I've tried and used many different video editing programs, and currently own others. They have the same types of problems. Visit some of the other "competitor's" web boards and you'll quickly see. One other program that I own, has more problems with it than I thought. I'm sort of questioning why I purchased it now. Anyway, video editing applications are very delicate and complicated. If it's a bug with the program, it can easily be replicated on different computers, and numerous people will be complaining about it. If it is a system problem, that is not easily replicated, and is not experienced by several people.
VS has had problems with various QuickTime Player versions, which is resolved by rolling back the version. There's also a conflict that may be caused at times by just doing a routine Windows update. This is most of the time corrected by ensuring you have the most recent version of DirectX installed. Those are just a couple of examples.

I have made another post explaining one of the many problems I'm having with the program. I didn't say I experienced the problems with the trial version...I didn't mention the trial version at all. I actually purchased the program for 59.99 months ago.
Anyway, here is another of the problems I'm having. When I save a project I've worked on, I click save as, then it only gives me the option to save as a .vsp. However, when I try to open it, it says the the file format is wrong. How can that be when it's the program itself that creates that file format?
Here is my workflow if it helps.
I make a little movie with my camera, then it brings it up in windows photo gallery and the native format is .mpg. I select Corel VP3 to open it then it opens in Corel VP3. I work on it a little then click File, Save as, it only gives me the choice to save it as .vsp. What sense does that make? I want to save it to a file format that Corel VP3 can actually open. I guess these problems happen and leave the consumer up in the air because the "help" pages are so lame and made without the consumer in mind. VERY MINIMAL HELP! for sure. Anyway I guess it will take many years to figure this program out. I just wish I never bought it.

Ok, I've skimmed through your other post, where Brian explains the VSP (VideoStudio Project) file. You can however insert a VSP file into VS as a video file. This is commonly referred to as nesting. However you must be very careful because that VSP file contains links to the source clips that you inserted into it. If you try to use the Insert Photo command and inadvertently select a video file or a VSP file, you will get the file format mismatch error.
Brian also explained how to take your project and create a video file from that. You see VS uses a Step workflow. Look at the tabs across the top, you have Capture, Edit, Share. This is a natural workflow to edit video.
You must first get the video onto your PC, which is referred to as "capturing", even though with formats such as DV, using Firewire, is actually not capturing, but in fact transferring the video in real time to your PC.
Next is the the Edit step, which if you captured the video you certainly want to do something special with it. Otherwise with most camcorders there's a means to plug the thing into your T.V. and watch the video. So you edit the video, by cutting parts out, adding titles, captions, effects, filters, music, narration and so on. Once this is done, you then want to show off your production. Show your friends that you're just as good a producer as those in Hollywood (heck most people are better then them..
)
This is of course the Share step. Now in the Share step you're presented with a host of ways to share your production. You can share it through DVDs, Blu-Ray, just creating a video file to playback on your PC, upload to YouTube or other social networking sites. Since your project currently is just a bunch of instructions, like a text file, you need to put that all together in a new video file. So you select Create Video File. The type of video file depends on how you want to share it. With VS X3 you must first create a video file before you can proceed into the DVD authoring program, which is DVD Factory 2010 (don't waste your time on that one), or the much better DVD MovieFactory 7 SE. So create a DVD compliant MPEG-2 file by selecting Create Video File>NTSC (or PAL) depending on where in the world you're located. VS will then produce a prompt for you to name your new video file, a location on your PC for that file, and then some options are found by pressing the options button. Once VS has finished producing your new video file, you can then do with that as you want, like onto producing a DVD..

If you want to return the program, then you can request a refund by visiting this web address: http://www.corel.com/return, provided that you purchased the program directly from corel, if you purchased it from a retailer, then you will need to return the program to them and do keep in mind that they have their own return policy.
