Voice Track Not Audible

Post by Jan1954 »

I transferred a Ulead Video file to my new computer to start editing. The sound is not audible. I can SEE the sound on the voice/track line, and can see the green sound bars move up and down, but I can't hear the sound. The same file works fine on the old computer. The old computer had Boston Accoustic speakers whereas this new computer only has the speakers in the monitor. How do I get the sound audible?

Make sure that you are playing the PROJECT and not the CLIP.
I have noticed that if you have a video without sound on the video track, plus a sound clip on one of the audio tracks, if you then click the video track, then play the CLIP you don't hear the sound. If you click on PROJECT you hear it. Similarly click on the sound file and play the CLIP you hear the sound but do not see the video.

I have tried selecting both the Project and Clip with no success with either one. This is a new project, so I have not done any editing to this video. Therefore, there is only the one video/audio track.

Any other suggestions? Do I need to get speakers?

Oh, I almost forgot. This new computer is Windows 7 Home Premium, 64X. And I have the outdated Ulead Video Studio 10+. Would that make a difference?

OK having eliminated that as a possible cause we need to start at square one.
Please view Please Read This Before posting
Then provide as much detail as you can, in particular the sound format is essential, We need to see if the sound/video formats are compatible with Windows 7.

Yes, VS10 was not designed to work with Windows 7, nor is there a patch to upgrade it to do so. Try the trial version of X3 and see if that solves your problem. If so, you will need to upgrade.

Outdated?? Yes very much so. In fact VS 10+ was released before Windows Vista, so they had to release a patch for it to run on Vista.

Thank you everyone for your support. I was on the fence about buying a new Ulead product. I was thinking about switching to something else. I just tried to open another untouched Ulead AVI file into Windows Movie Maker to see how it worked, and now I found out Windows doesn't have the codec for the file. Codecs!

I started looking into what sjj1805 instructed, about checking the sound format to see if the sound/video formats are compatible with Windows 7, and all I could find so far about my computer sound was the audio is High Definition Audio with 5.1 Audio Support. That told me a lot!! I was a little bummed out about having to spend time figuring this issue out, and have not followed up.

I never liked the Ulead manual and the Help in the software, as far as walking you through making the movie. I really hated the manual and software Help for creating chapters and titles, but thanks to these forum tutorials I muddled my way through.

Since I am familiar with Ulead, I guess I'll bite the bullet and upgrade to the newest software. But I will see it has the "bells and whistles" for Windows 7, 64X.

I downloaded the free trial of Video Studio Pro X3 and I have sound! I now know the old software was not compatible with my new computer.

Now do I really want to stay with Ulead software, hmmm.
