VideoStudio pro X3 very slow!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope its ok for me to bring this topic up again, but I need to know if its the program or my computer?
I purchased VideoStudio pro X3 , a few weeks ago, I always used ProX2 so I thought this would be a step up, but trying to edit and use the program, its very very delayed and freezing up and just causing so much frustration!!!!!!Can any one tell me if its my computer or is it the program?
If it is my computer, what can i do to fix it. Thanks

Hi
Welcome to the forum.
Are you working with High Definition video, if yes then make sure Settings--Smart Proxy is selected, and that Proxy files have been created.

I have no problems editing DV-AVI with X3...
As Trevor states, some file types are more demanding than others.

What are your clip properties, where are they coming from, and how are you getting them into the computer?

Also.... press the following 3 keys together to bring up Windows Task manager
Ctrl-Alt-Del
Now look to see how may running processes you have and also how much of that 4GB of RAM is being used.
It is possible that there may be lots of other programs running in the background. I come across this problem almost every time a friend/relative asks me to have a look at their computer. What happens over a period of time is that when you install a program it adds things to the start up locations of Windows, so every time you turn your computer on these programs start running in the background and you might not even be aware of them.
Another often overlooked cause of a slow computer is disc fragmentation.

Hi
You should be capturing via Firewire,
Selecting DV as the capture format will give DV-Avi at 13 Gb per hour.
From the timeline/library right click a clip and select properties , what are they?

Re: VideoStudio pro X3 very slow!!!!!!!!!!!
sjj1805 ,I took your advice and I see that there is 32- 33 processes running, and I have already ran disc fragmentation.
Now concerning the processes, which ones can I stop?? And around 23% memory been used.
trevor andrew, I'm using a firwire, ands the properties say it Microsoft AVI Files, and seeing I'm on the topic, the comperession is DV Video Encoder -type 2. should it be type 1, or does it matter.
I also forgot to mention, heres an example I want you guys to know about, when I got the program open and when I try and watch what I got do, to see if it looks or sounds good enough I click play ofcourse, when I stop viewing and than try to watch again, it takes forever for the project to start again, sometimes it never starts, but if I just clicked on video clip itself,or the sound file or the title, there is no delay whatsoever, but to play the complete project, its crazy slow. Its just not right, I have to be careful not to freeze the whole thing and to restart the program again. I'll owe you guys a 1000000.00 each if I can get to the bottom of this, thanks

Re: VideoStudio pro X3 very slow!!!!!!!!!!!
Type 1 and Type 2 will not make any difference.
What needs to follow now is a process of elimination. It is possible you are using a corrupted video file or you might have a hard drive problem.
1. Try using a different video source file as a test.
Is the problem still present with a different file?
If so try capturing (transferring) the video again.
2. Check your hard drive for errors.

3. Follow my Troubleshooting guide

Hi newfielander
DV-Avi is probably the easiest format for Video Studio to cope with.
I have been using this type for as many years without problems.
The capture process actually transfers/copies the data from camera to PC without any re-coding.
There is nothing to set except the DV Type, most users use Type 1. So what you have on the camera is what you get on the pc ---- DV-Avi.
Try another capture, select DV-Type 1 from the options cogwheel.
View my guide to Dv-Avi
You could also try capturing using a program called Win – DV, just to rule out the software.
To hear of a problem is indeed strange and cause for concern.
A corrupt file could be the result of faulty firewire card or cable, not ruling out the camera of course.
Follow Steve’s recommendations, as he says it’s a matter of elimination.

Re: VideoStudio pro X3 very slow!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi folks, I have discovered that if I was to edited my "video files" first and don't insert any Smartsound quicktrack files I guess I can call it,than I have no problems, seems to me that the smart sound files is giving me the trouble and causing my computer to slowwwwwwwwwwwwwww down,so I think this is the easiest route to take, so once all the video is edited I'll than add the sound files that I want, but I'm still gonna try and follow instructions that you guys are giving me.
sjj1805, I've tryed a different file same thing happens as long as I got a smartsound quicktrack in the music track, clear the music track, and all is well. I opened the Windows Task Manager and watched, "Processes with Disk Activity"and the charts would sky rocket when using the smart sound quick tracks, so thats why I decided to try and avoid using any sound files till I really need them. So is this a good way to work around my troubles?
trevor andrew ,DV-Avi is the formatt that I'm using, but thanks again for your input.Every thing helps

Re: VideoStudio pro X3 very slow!!!!!!!!!!!
I haven't used SmartSound in quite a while, partly because of the problem you encountered. My workaround was the same as yours. I even went so far as to create a wav file of my SmartSound track to make everything run much smoother.I have discovered that if I was to edited my "video files" first and don't insert any Smartsound quicktrack files I guess I can call it,than I have no problems, seems to me that the smart sound files is giving me the trouble and causing my computer to slowwwwwwwwwwwwwww down,so I think this is the easiest route to take, so once all the video is edited I'll than add the sound files that I want, but I'm still gonna try and follow instructions that you guys are giving me.
