Installing 3rd party plugins and filters

Post by raejohn »

Hi, I am doing the BW workshop and have come across a tutorials for installing 3rd party plugins and filters and am having a bit of trouble. This is what I have done I have placed the filters file.dll into the Windows System folder and the plugin.dll into the main program file C:\ProgramFiles\Corel\PhotoImpactX3\plugins. I have then created a folder called Filters in the C drive. I have also gone in to preferences and added this Filter Folder to the list. When PI and a new image are initiated the new filters should show up in the effects list - however they do not - What have I done wrong??? Really plain English as I am not that savvy with the program. Thanks Rae

That's an excellent learning workshop to learn about PI, I took it a couple years ago..:)

In PI open Preferences (File>Preferences>General), then click on the Plug-ins and define where you have the plug-ins installed. You will need to restart PI for them to take effect.

Hi and thanks Ron, Yes it is a great workshop but this one has me stumped and I am awaiting advice from my mentor and in the meantime I hoped someone in this forum might be able to help me out. Have I put the plugins and filters etc. in the right place from what I have said - if so - when I go into Preferences and add the Filters folder's whereabouts and then reboot why don't I get them!I hope you don't mind but I have enclosed a few little attachments which show where I have put everything and from that you may find I have done something wrongly. If you happened to have an exercise like this when you did the workshop then you may remember. i.e. for the program files are ulead systems but mine are in Corel as it is X3 and not PI 8
as in the lesson. Thanks Rae

You're doing Debisty's Tutorial aren't you..;)

Did you download and place the mscvrt10.dll into your Windows/System folder ? If so try placing it in the C:\Windows\system32 folder. I think this is what WinXP uses as the system folder.

Hi Ron, You would not believe it.....I had it right all along just did not add the effects as I took the tutorial literally and just made the file which "would hold the filters". All is well - never mind a problem shared is a problem halved they say. It is like going to the doctors and having a miraculous recovery whilst in the waiting room. One question though can you use an animated signature or other animations from photo impact with video studio??? I know you are involved with both programs.
Thanks heaps for your imput. Regards Rae

VS can accept animated GIF files if that's what you're asking. You insert them as a video file. If you try to insert a GIF file as an image then VS will treat it as a still image. SWF files are also accepted in VS.
