Need some serious help

Post by 0sburnr »

When I first purchased Corel Video X2, it worked great. now all of a sudden it is very slow. I have a 2 hour video loaded and I can scroll through the first 45 minutes fine. Once I go past that point, it takes about 10 seconds to move 1 second of video. I have 4 GB of ram and a 1 TB HD. Tech Support said my system should have no problems and all they can tell me is that I need more memory. This does not explain why it worked fine at the beginning anf if that is the case why they only say you need 2 GB of mem

OK, I updated my profile and the PC settings.

I am using Core Video Studio PRO X2 and X3 (It does the same on each program)

THe video I am using is a 1 hour 54 minute MPG file. I uploaded it from a video.ts file folder off of a dvd.

As long as I stay in the first 40 minutes of the video, I can scroll back and forth with out any problem. If I go above the 40 minute mark, when I click on the seconds to try to increase it, it takes about 10 seconds to move 1 second. It does this in both the trim mode and from the viewer window

Hi

First if you have updated your profile then the pc details should show to the right of your post, can you check?

If X2 and X3 are doing the same to this video file then it may well be a corrupt file.

Even so have you applied all update patches to Video Studio.
Also have you manually updated Direct X, there is a post at the top of this forum with a link to Direct X.

ok
Can you right click the video file and select properties, what are they?

Standard definition Mpeg2 files shouldn’t cause any problems with Video Studio.
Do you have problems with all mpg type files or is it this particular one?

Have you applied any other edits, effects, sounds files, etc.

I re-did my profile again. hopefully this time it holds

The file ext is .mpg
Format NTSC DVD
Size 8,243,992 kb
duration 6886.386 seconds

Video Type MPEG-2 Video Upper Field First
Total Frames 206.385
Attributes 24 Bits, 720 x 480 4:3
Data Rate Variable Bit Rate

These types of videos are the only large videos I edit right now so I have not tried any others that are similar. As long as I stay in the lower 4 minutes, I am fine, Above that it does not move very fast

Are these long, continuous clips your are having trouble with, or does it happen past the 40 minute mark even if you have an hours worth of 1-minute clips?

these come in 2 - 3 hours clips. I edit them down. It only seems to be a problem with the long clips

Ok. What happens if you cut the clips - say every 15 minutes? No other editing, just cut them so they are in smaller segments. :?:

Cutting them down is what I am trying to do. The file is 2 - 3 hours worth of different interviews. I trim the first 30 minutes off of the file and save it. I then try to trim the next 30 minutes and that is where I run into the problem. After I trim the first 30 minutes, I am still working with the original large file. I am not sure if I know how to cut the file instead of trimming it

When you Save it are you using File Save or Save as..? If so this is just saving a project file (VSP), not a new video file. When you're working on a project, the clips you have are virtual, not the real thing. When you cut or trim, you're not affecting the actual "source" clip. You're telling VS what to do when it Creates a video file (Share>Create Video File). In the case of a trim, VS understands that from let's say the very start of the clip to your trim point ( 3 mins later), you want to save as a new video file. So it renders a video file, using that part of your original clip, and applying any effects and filters, titles audio and so on. Your original source clip is left untouched. It's called non-destructive editing.

Further example of this, is after cutting as Jeff stated, delete the part you do not want. Now with the remaining clip, grab yellow edge of the clip, and start dragging... :o You should find that the part you just deleted is still there. Why? It's still linked to your original source clip. It has not done anything to that clip. When you cut and deleted the unwanted part, you just provided instructions for VS to carry out when you go to the Share>Create Video File step. Now once you do create a new video file, if you insert that newly created video file, you can no longer drag out the end to reveal what you previously cut.

NOTE:
You can also use the trim/pause-duration handles found beneath the preview window, to drag out the end(s) to reveal what has been trimmed or cut.

here is the latest I have discovered.

Cutting does not seem to work. So I decided to load the video and re-create it as an MPEG 2 file. It will go to about the 55 % mark in about 15 minutes then it takes about 12 hours to go from 55 % to the end. Once it is saved as an MPEG 2 file, I can edit it just fine. What I don't understand is why it slows down in the middle. The video has about 16 chapters in it and when it hits chapter 7 it bogs down for some reason.
