Copy VSP to another drive without losing menus

Post by John Richardson »

I created several projects on my C:drive and as they are now taking up too much room, I want to tranfer them to a new drive partition. When I do a smart package I lose all menus, and when I simply copy the whole VSPfolder to another drive, I need to re-link all files and even then, the menu doesn't seem to work. Am I doing something wrong or is there a way to preserve my projects properly on another drive and delete the original VSP folder on drive C

Hi John

Welcome to the forum

Smart Package should do what you want.
Not sure but you may need to relink, but should do all in first attempt.
Otherwise you manually move everything to the new drive and re-link.

What version of Video Studio are you using I assume X2

Can you expand a little on what you mean when saying “I lose all menus?”

Yes I am usin Pro x2. When leaving on the initial drive C, I can go to Share, then to creade DVD . I then add chapters and all the chapter thumbnails are there. I then press Next and my original menu is there with all chapter thumbnails laid out on the menu. When doing a package, the chapters are there, but no menu appears. When moving the VSP folder to another drive, I have to relink, and again the chapters are there but no menu. As I have a number of projects to move, this means that for each one, I need to re-create all my menus again. Is there a way around this?

Hi John

I have run a few tests and like you I seem to loose the menu structure when creating the Smart Package. Even before exporting the folder.

When I close the burner module I return to the timelines, here you have to save the project. This preserves the menu structure, although subsequent editing may remove the menu.
Opening the project again and I can see the menu intact.

When creating the Smart Package I would have expected it to work as original.
Not sure what is going on here but will give it some more thought.

Maybe others on the forum could check this out.

As for a work-round.
If you have got to the stage of creating the menu then your movie is complete.
Create a Disc Image or DVD Folder, this will allow you to burn a disc at a later date.

I believe that the only answer is to transfer the complete folder containing the avi files and vsp files to another drive thus freeing space on the c drive. When the vsp file needs to be loaded properly complete with menus, the folder needs to be copied back onto the c drive. This procedure seems to work every time provided that the folder name remains the same all the time.
